MainMatch 10: Flee The Dungeon

In this MainMatch you must escape the dungeon as fast as possible by mapping and solving puzzles.

You will need to schedule a time to run through the dungeon and escape.

It is highly recommended that during the game you have:

  • Have 2 hours of time spare. While it shouldn't take longer than this, it also recommended to not have commitments in the 3 hours from start time.
  • Do not delete messages
  • You have Pencil and Paper to make notes.
  • You are at a desktop computer (preferably the one you've used previously in the ORG)
  • You have either Dual Monitor setup, or with 1 monitor to split windows to left and right side of the screen for discord and image opening.
  • Image editor where you can write notes on images. (e.g. Paint or PowerPoint)
  • You may use a calculator or Excel.
  • You may search the internet, but there is nothing in the Dungeon that requires it.
  • Glass of Water

During the game I will allow for 2 pauses to stop the timer for a break (to use bathroom etc)

To do this simply type "BREAK" in capital letters.

However these should be taken when there is not an active puzzle to be solved. (when your not under a ⌛ puzzle)

During the game I will act as your interface to the Dungeon. Consider it as a virtual Escape Room.

I will queue bot commands, interpret your answers as correct or not, and move you from room to room.

Anything that is important and interactable will be written in "bold" text, whether it be an item or place you can go.

While there will be some lag for time to process in places this should be similar for all players.

Additionally this should be partially mitigated by the interval system.

===================================================================

Interval System

Your time in the Dungeon will be measured in a system of intervals. Your final score is the sum of these.

The first set are the "Completion Intervals". This is simply the total 4 minute intervals that make up your final time to complete the whole Dungeon.

If you finished in 1 Hour and 11 Minutes, that is 17 Intervals. (Rounded down)

The second set is the "Puzzle Intervals". Whenever you see the ⌛ symbol, that means a timer has started for a puzzle.

The timer stops when that Puzzle is solved. At the end of the MainMatch we will compare players scores for each puzzle.

If you were the fastest you gain 0 intervals.

If you were the second fastest you gain 1 interval.

If you were the third fastest you gain 2 intervals.

If you were the fourth fastest you gain 3 intervals.

If you see ⌛ ⌛ in a puzzle, that means the intervals gained are multiplied by 2. [0/2/4/6].

When you see this symbol you will have access to everything you need to solve the puzzle.

The third set are "Incorrect Intervals". Whenever you see the 📢 symbol, that means there is a penalty for answering a puzzle incorrectly.

If you answer a puzzle incorrectly you will gain a penalty of 1 interval.

If you see 📢📢 in a puzzle, that means the penalty is 2 intervals.

Hint System

Each puzzle has 3 types of hints. Do not be afraid to use them if you become stuck.

The first type of hint is an "Instruction Hint" which there is 1 of for each puzzle with a ⌛.

For puzzles of the same time, you will receive the same hint.

Many puzzles will not explain what you need to do to solve a puzzle.

You will have to work it out from the text provided and my responses to your actions.

You can purchase this for a cost of 2 Intervals. I will then explain:

  • The basic concept behind the puzzle
  • How to submit an answer (its format)
  • Whether you will need information from outside the current room.

This will not provide any information on the solve path.

The second type of hint is a "Guidance Hint" which there are 3 of for each puzzle with a ⌛.

If you are unsure how to solve a puzzle you may purchase each Hint for the cost of 1 Interval to gain help how to solve it.

  • The first Hint will suggest where to focus your attention to start solving the puzzle.
  • The second Hint will give non specific information about the solution.
  • The third Hint will give you specific information that will allow you to use new / easier logic to reach the solution faster.

If you have purchased all 3 Hints for a puzzle and your time solving it has reached at least 10 minutes, you may choose to spend 2 Intervals to auto solve the puzzle.

If you do this, you will automatically come last for your ranking in time to solve.

If more than 1 player did this, whichever spent less time before using it is ranked higher.

The third type of hint is a "Directional Hint" which is used outside puzzles.

If you are unsure how to progress you may purchase this for 1 Interval.

Afterwards I will direct you to the next place you need to be to progress.

This costs 1 more interval after each time you use it.

Results

At the end of the game, I will reveal how everyone performed on the puzzles and overall intervals earnt.

The player with the Least Intervals is declared the winner and earns a ToL.

The player with the most Intervals is the MainMatch loser and EC.

If there is a tie, the total time to complete the whole Dungeon will break the tie.

Note however this DM features a DMO Advantage so every position matters.

===================================================================

Artefact Power:

Power of Light: You immediately gain all 3 Guidance hints for a ⌛ puzzle with no Interval cost.

Power of Dark: You receive no penalty for your speed rank for the next two hourglasses ⌛.

(if the first puzzle is ⌛ and the second is ⌛⌛, you will score the 2nd as if it were a ⌛)

Clarification on Power of Dark, it must be used within 1 minute of seeing a puzzle for it to affect the current puzzle.
