MainMatch 6: Doppel Doubt


After the Jesters have cast their spell, between you there are 10 identical looking Doppelgangers of different colours. Its impossible to tell who is who. There are 5 pairs of colours, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple. One member of each pair being a P Doppel, and the other the Q Doppel (although they look identical). While you don’t know who is who, you know that 1 pair among you are the Jesters in disguise who will act on their own to mess with everyone’s plans.


In front of you is a large 17x17 board.

On this board are 12 potential starting locations, six marked with a “P”, six with a “Q”.

The remaining spaces are covered with numbers ranging from -5 to +5.

This game uses a deck of 100 cards numbered 1 to 100.


Each Doppel will be dealt 10 cards from this deck at the start of the game.

The average of all of your cards will be identical to everyone else and they will be distributed relative to range.

Each turn every Doppel will play 1 of their 10 cards. This will determine the order actions resolve.


The aim of this game is to work with your same colour Doppel to create the largest difference between your numbers.

However, it is best to do this without them or anyone else identifying who you are.


In Round 1, you will Choose a Starting Location and a Shape.

In Rounds 2 to 9 you will choose a Shape and Place a Shape.

In Round 10, you will place a Shape and Guessing Identities.



Choosing Starting Location

From the board you must list the 6 starting places that match your letter in your preferred order.

Starting Locations will be given out from highest number to lowest number.

Each Doppel will gain the first location in their list not already taken.

The remaining 2 spaces will convert to spaces numbered 0.


Choosing Shapes

Shapes are made up of orthogonally connected squares, with a total of 4, 5 or 6 squares on each.

Each round 10 unique shapes will be revealed.

Each Doppel will list their preference for receiving shapes.

Shapes will be given out from lowest number to highest number.

Then each Doppel will gain the first shape in their list not already taken.

This shape is then given to your partner.


Placing Shapes

You will be informed at the start of the round the shape you were given by your partner.

You must place this on the board so that 1 square overlaps a square you currently control.

Shape placing will resolve from highest number to lowest number.

Once a Square has been claimed in a round, it will ignore all other claims for the round.

There are some conditions to know for placing shapes:

• Once a “Zero” space has been claimed, it cannot be reclaimed. You may only place shapes on top of it if it is your colour.

• You may place shapes on unclaimed territory with no restriction.

• If you wish to take over another colour’s territory then over 50% of the shape must be placed on squares you control.

Please note that this is independent for each colour.

Guessing Identities

Here you can guess who you think the identities of the colours the other players and jesters are.

If you can correctly guess the colour of both players in a pair, you will gain a net benefit of 5 points.

If you correctly guessed a pair that wasn’t your colour, they will lose a net detriment of 5 point for each player.

If you correctly guess the colour of the jester pair, you will gain a net benefit of 10 points.


The Results:

The game ends after 10 Rounds.

P’s score is the sum of all the positive number in their claimed area.

Q’s score is the sum of all the negative number in their claimed area.

Your colours score is the gap between P’s score and Q’s score.

The benefit point from guessing identities will take you further from zero.

The detriment points from guessing identities will take you closer to zero.


The team with the greatest colour score wins the MainMatch and earns a Token of Life.

Additionally, the player with the largest distance from zero wins and earns a Token of Life.

If there are ties, this is broken by whoever was leading in the previous round.


The losers of the MainMatch is the player whose team had the lowest colour score.

The player on that team whose score is closest to zero would become the Elimination Candidate.

However, they have a chance to survive...

If they managed to guess who their partner was correctly, but their partner failed to do the same, then they gain a Token of Life and their partner becomes the Elimination Candidate instead.

Artefact Power:

Power of Light: Choose a space you control, convert it into a "Zero" space that you control. This happens at the end of the round.

Power of Dark: You can adjust your card played this round by up to 30 (must be integer amount, must be within 0 to 101).

If this Results in tied cards, they ranked based on their original value.


Clarification: If your partner earns a ToL for having the greatest distance from zero, but your pair is the lowest scorer, then the check to avoid EC is skipped.


Clarification: Shapes can be rotated, but not reflected
