Main Match 6: Performance Corruption
In Performance Corruption, players bid on how well various performers will do in a series of rigged games. Bidding too much on a performer will make them underperform, however.
RULESThere are eight performers in this game, assigned the letters A through H. Each of them has five stats: Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness, each of which is given a nonnegative integer value. These stats are distributed in such a way that each performer's sum of stats is between 230 and 270, and each performer's stats are 5 distinct numbers from each other.
These stats are not given to you. Instead, you may query for a {performer/stat} value, which will immediately be given to you. You may do this up to 6 times for free; afterwards, you may spend 2 garnets per additional query. This can be done at any point in the game. Query results are real-time. Upon making a query, please ping Dealer to get a response more quickly.
There are eight performances, happening over six rounds. The first four rounds have one performance each, while the last two rounds have two performances each. Each performance, two stats are tested with weights (X,Y). From this, each performer can be assigned a score for the performance.
For instance, if a performer had 40 Coolness and 70 Beauty, and a performance tested Coolness and Beauty with weights (2,1), then the performer would have the score of
2*40+1*70=150.
All performers will be ranked for their performances in the day. In the case of a tie in score, the judges will declare the earlier performer (earlier letter in the alphabet) better. At the end of that day, the relative rankings of performer's standings is revealed for the performance (or both performances), but not the specific numeric scores.
All performance parameters are revealed publicly at the start of the Main Match.
Players will be bidding on how these performers do. Each player starts with 10 chips, and at the start of each day after the first, they receive 2 more chips per performance that day. Players bid on individual performers, and all bids are revealed at the end of each day. In addition, chips are not consumed at the end of a round; however, they cannot be moved off of the performer you bet them on; they remain on the performer for the rest of the MM.
After each performance, players who bid on the top performers will be paid. The performer who ranks 1st will divide $30 among all bidders on them, and the performer who ranks 2nd will divide $10 among all bidders on them. This division happens proportionally to the number of chips bid, without performing any rounding.
For instance, if Alice had 4 chips on the winner and Bob had 1 chip, Alice would receive $24 and Bob would receive $6.
In addition, at the end of all eight performances, each performer's average ranking over all performances is calculated. The performer with the best (numerically lowest) average placement pays $100, and the second best pays $80.
However, there is one final twist--when players bid on a performer, they are affected adversely by pressure. Every chip bid on a performer decreases one of their stats. These decreases happen in order of their highest stat to their lowest stat, cycling back after all five stats have been decreased once. Stat decreases persist for the rest of the MM.
For instance, if a performer's initial stats were 30/40/50/60/70 in order, and 7 chips were bid on them in total, their new stat total would be 29/39/49/58/68.
When performing queries, you will learn the original stat, not the stat's current value.
At the end of the Main Match, the player who has won the most money wins and receives two Tokens of Life. Furthermore, the player with the second most money also receives one Token of Life.
(In case of ties: If there is a tie for first, all players tied for first receive one Token of Life, and the Token for second place is cancelled. If there is a tie for second, no tied player receives a Token of Life.)
The Elimination Candidate is the player with the least money at the end of the Main Match.
Players receive 1 Garnet for every $20 they have at the end of the Main Match, rounded down.
