Main Match 3: Persistent Calibration

In Persistent Calibration, players place weights on either side of three scales. You gain points by having weights on the lighter side of a scale, whose weights maintain through rounds.

RULES

This game lasts for 6 rounds. Before Rounds 1 and 4, players receive three weights of values 1, 2, and 3. Players may not trade or gift weights.

There are three balance scales, named Scale A, B, and C. All three scales start out with no weights on either side.

Each round, players choose a scale, one of its sides (either left or right), and one of their currently held weights. That side of that scale will be incremented by the value of the selected weight.

A player may spend 1 garnet to modify the value of the weight they place in a single round by 1. This cannot be used to make a weight with value less than 1 or greater than 3.

At the end of each round, each scale's total weight on each side will be revealed. In addition, the side of the scale that each player placed on is revealed (but not which scale or the weight used). For each scale, the side that is lighter receives points; each weight of some value that any player put down on that side in any prior round gives that many points to that player.

In the case of a balanced scale, no points are awarded.

At the end of 6 rounds, the player with the most points is the winner of the Main Match and receives four Tokens of Life. The Elimination Candidate is the player with the fewest points. In the case of a 2-way MM winner tie, each winner receives two Tokens of Life. In the case of any larger sized joint MM winner tie, all tied players receive one Token of Life.

A player receives 1 garnet for every 6 points they have at the end of the game, rounded down.

ADMINISTRATION

Timing

The first round will last for 48 hours. Subsequent rounds last for 24 hours each.

Submissions

Each round, players submit the following:

  • Which scale they are using
  • Which side of that scale they are using
  • Which weight they will be placing down
  • Whether or not they are using garnets (and if they are, how their weight is being modified)

If a player does not submit for a round, then the lowest value weight they hold is removed and not placed anywhere.

Information

Publicly announced, at the end of each round:

  • The left and right side total values for each scale
  • For each player, which side of the scale they used

Publicly announced, at the end of the game:

  • Each player's final score
  • The winner(s) and the loser(s)

Known only to you:

  • Which scale and which weight you used each round

Garnets

Garnets may be used in the following way:

While submitting, you may spend Garnets to modify the value of the weight you use that round, at a rate of a change of 1 per Garnet. This cannot be used to make a value under 1 or over 3.

Garnets may be earned in the following way:

At the end of the game, you receive one garnet for every 6 points you have (rounded down).

Clarification: Changing the weight using a garnet persists between rounds and will award the adjusted number of points. In other words, an adjusted weight is indistinguishable from a weight it was adjusted to.

Clarification: Weights you placed in the round are scored; it is not only the weights of the previous rounds, but the current round too.

Clarification: This will be an attempt of restating scoring to make it more understandable.

After each round, each of the three scales will have a lighter side. If both sides have equal total weight, the scale doesn't score.

All of the weights on the lighter sides will score. Note that weights aren't removed between rounds and what was placed on a scale remains there until the end of the game.

In a round, a player will score the sum of all weights they have on the currently lighter side of the scale.
