The game you two will be playing is called....TWELVE JANGGI
Here are the rules for your pleasure. This game will also be played live ideally.
Each player starts the game with four pieces that move in different ways:
The game is played on a four by three board with the three squares closest to each player’s side being their respective territories. Each piece moves as in standard shogi (dictated above), but is limited to moving one square per turn. If the Man advances to the opponent's territory, it is promoted to a Feudal Lord. Feudal Lords can move one square in any direction besides diagonally backwards (like the gold general in shogi). Pieces that are captured may be placed down anywhere but in the opponent’s territory.
Similar to shogi, if a Feudal Lord is captured, it can only be dropped back into play as Man. If the players play the same moves three turns in a row, then the game is a draw. There are two ways to win the game: capturing the opponent's King, or advancing one's own King into the opponent's territory and surviving for one turn.
