Designer(s): Zero Match Type: DM (for 2 players)
Featured in: Zero's Gauntlet

In this game, both players start with 90 chips.

These are used throughout the entire DM in 3 sets.

Players will bid on tiles and use these in Jousts.

Whoever has more points at the end of these 3 sets and the final Joust, wins the DM.

Each set consists of an Auction phase, and a Joust Phase.

Auction Phase

In the Auction phase players aim to secure tiles to be used in the Joust Phase

13 tiles numbered 1 through 13 will be put up in 4 groups of 3.

If a tile is even it is coloured Black, if a tile is odd, it is coloured White.

Each group will have the tiles labelled to indicate their size.

The numbers of the tiles for auction will not be revealed, but their colour will.

They identified as the:

Minute Tile (smallest numbered tile)

Balance Tile (middle numbered tile)

Giant Tile (largest numbered tile)

Bidding starts with the DMO for the first auction of each set. Every other auction starts with the winner of the last auction.

We start with the Balance tile for the first group.

Betting alternates in the standard way for an auction, either raise above the other persons bid, or fold.

The winner of the first auction in a group is given their tile privately and told its value.

They then decide which of the other 2 numbered tiles they would like to auction next.

After that tile is won it is revealed privately to the buyer.

The final tile is auctioned and revealed privately to the buyer.

Then the next group is then revealed.

Betting starts with the tile closest to the number of the third tile auctioned in the last group.

If 2 tiles are equally close, the Balance Tile will start the group.

This repeats till 12/13 tiles have been given to the players.

The last tile goes to the player with the least tiles.

If this is a tie, neither player gets this tile, it is not revealed.

Joust Phase

In the Joust Phase, each player privately submits 1 tile.

The colour and which group it was bought from is revealed.

Both players are then given a second chance to submit a tile.

If at least 1 player submits a tile, both players are given the chance to submit another tile.

A maximum of 5 tiles can be submitted by a single player in total for each Joust round.

If neither player submits a tile, we enter the Joust.

All tiles are revealed, whichever side has a higher total sum of numbers wins.

The winner earns points equal to the smallest tile submitted by the other player.

If the total sums are a tie, both players gain points according to the above.

This process repeats until one of the players 1 or less tiles remaining.

Afterwards unused tiles are stored for the Final Joust.

The set then ends.

After 3 sets players will have occurred several unused tiles.

In the final Joust, players will use these in the same fashion as the previous Jousts, but using all remaining tiles in a single pool.

Each player privately submits 1 tile.

The colour and which group it was bought, and which set is was from is revealed.

This repeats till 12/14 tiles have been given to the players.

If one player has less tiles than the other, they will be shown the 2 tiles.

They must then choose one to add to their hand, and one to give to their opponent.

The opponent will only know the value of the tile they receive.

If both players have the same number of tiles, neither player gets these tiles and they are not revealed.
