TOGETHER WE SURVIVE, TOGETHER WE PROSPER

Cooperation is the key to many things in life, and in this episode, you will have to cooperate -- not only with your group, but with the opposing group too. There may be two separate games going on, but everyone can play and influence both games. How will you survive and prosper?

Group A, you will face rounds of voting. Your goal is to survive the longest... but as they say, second place is the biggest loser, and you really do not want to be the second-longest survivor.

Group B, you will collect tokens donated by your fellow players. Your goal is to collect the most donation over several rounds... but as they say, money is the root of all evil, and you really do not want to be the greediest.

RULES

⚙️ Setup

The Main Match consists of a number of rounds until the game-end condition is triggered. Each group has its own winners and losers, but during gameplay, each player can influence either game.

The Main Match uses tokens. Players in Group A start with 5 tokens each. Players in Group B start with 1 token each. Tokens cannot be given to another player.

In addition, players in Group A have a status: "on stage" or "kicked out". Initially, all players in Group A are on stage. Throughout the game, players that are still on stage may end up kicked out. This status only has relevance for gameplay; players that are kicked out can still talk to other players, make submissions, and so on. Players in Group B do not have either status.

🧠 During each round

Each round, all players (from both groups) can make one of the following two types of submissions:

  • Type A: Make any number of votes (at least one). Each vote must be to a player in Group A that is still on stage. You may vote yourself, if you are still on stage. Each vote costs one token, and you may make any number of votes as long as you have enough tokens. If you make multiple votes, your votes may be to the same player, to different players, or in any other combination.

  • Type B: Make exactly three votes. Each vote must be to a player in Group B, but the votes can be distributed in any manner; all to one player, all to different players, or any other combination. The votes do not cost any token, but you may only cast three votes (and exactly three votes) per round.

You may also decide not to make either type of submission, but submissions do not carry over between rounds. You can pay 1 garnet to make both types of submissions in a single round. It is impossible to make more than one submission of a given type in the same round.

📰 End of each round

At the end of the round, the submissions are evaluated:

  • Type A: Among the players still on stage, the player with the least number of votes is kicked out. If multiple players are tied for the least number of votes, all of them are kicked out.

  • Type B: The player with the most number of votes receives nothing. All other players receive tokens equal to the number of votes they receive. If there are multiple players tied at the most number of votes, none of them receive anything.

Only votes made in the current round matter. Votes from previous rounds don't carry over to the current round.

The following information is revealed publicly:

  • Submissions: What type of submission each player makes. This can be "type A" or "type B", depending on the type they make. This can also be "none" if the player doesn't make any submission, or "both" if the player spends a garnet to make both types of submissions.

  • Group A: How many votes each player receives, and the status of each player. The status of each player is either "on stage" or "kicked out"; if kicked out, it's also stated what round number they were kicked out.

  • Group B: How many votes each player receives, and thus the number of tokens each player receives.

Note that who the votes came from, and how many tokens each player has, are not revealed.

💎 End of game

Normally, after the conclusion of a round, the Main Match continues with the next round. However, there is a special case: if exactly one player in Group A is on stage, the next round ends automatically and immediately, with no players making any submissions. Note that this means the player in Group A gets kicked out.

The Main Match ends once all players in Group A are kicked out; this also ends the game for Group B. Once the Main Match is over, the token counts of players in Group B are revealed.

In Group A:

  • The players that were kicked out in the last round receive a standing ovation, and become the winners.
  • The players that were kicked out in the second-last round are booed, and become the losers.
  • The players that were kicked out earlier than that have been forgotten; they are not winners, but also not losers.
  • In the unlikely case that all players are kicked out at the same time in the first round, all players are winners and losers.

In Group B:

  • The players that have the most tokens have prospered in the middle of this greedy world, and become the winners.
  • The players that have the least tokens have succumbed to their greed, and become the losers.
  • In the unlikely case that all players have the same number of tokens, all players are winners and losers.

After deciding the winners and losers, the Tokens of Life are distributed as follows:

  • In general, each winner receives a Token of Life.
  • If there are at least six winners in a group, no player in that group receives any Token of Life, meaning nobody is immune.
  • If there is a sole winner in a group, they receive three Tokens of Life instead. Two of them must be given away to other non-losing players in their group; the choices must be different. The sole winner distributes the Tokens of Life in #table-of-judgement.

After distributing the Tokens of Life, in each group, the Elimination Candidate is decided via a vote:

  • Each winner in that group casts a private vote for one of the losers in their group; if they fail to cast a vote in time, their vote is randomized.
  • The loser with the most votes becomes the Elimination Candidate. If multiple players are tied for the most votes, one of them is randomly chosen to become the Elimination Candidate. Note that the tiebreaking rules in #server-rules do not apply; use only the rules here.
  • The number of votes each loser receives will be revealed, but not who voted for which.

Some very specific details about deciding winners and losers:

  • If there are six or more losers and a sole winner, the sole winner will receive as many Tokens of Life as there are non-losing players. This also means there is no choice for who will become immune.
  • If both groups end up with a sole winner each, it shouldn't matter which winner makes their decision first. However, if either player thinks their decision will be influenced by the other, both winners distribute the Tokens of Life in private, to be revealed after both have made their choices.

:garnet: Garnets awarded

Each player in Group A receives 1 garnet per round they remain on stage. Therefore, the players kicked out in the first round receive nothing; the players kicked out in the second round receive 1 garnet; and so on.

Each player in Group B receives 1 garnet per 7 tokens held at the end of the game.

Garnets are awarded at the end of the Main Match. Therefore, you cannot use the garnets for the Main Match.

ADMINISTRATION

The daily deadline is at 14:00 UTC ( your local time). Round updates are done at this time; allow a few minutes of delay.

Each round lasts for 24 hours, except for the first round that lasts for 48 hours (to allow you some time to understand the rules and form strategies). The final vote to determine the Elimination Candidate (if needed) lasts for 24 hours.

Submissions must be done in your submissions channel. We will take the last valid submission. Do not edit your submission; if you want to change it, make a new message with your updated submission. If you edit your submission, we are not responsible if we take an incorrect submission (e.g. a submission you made before you edited it).

We will attempt to notify you if your submission might be invalid, but it is ultimately your responsibility to make sure it is valid. If you do not have a valid submission, you are assumed to make no submission of either type for the round. Note that a submission of Type B must consist of exactly three votes; a submission that has more or less is treated as invalid.

You may ask us to remind you how many tokens you have. We will try to respond promptly, but this information should be something you can keep track of by yourself, and so we are not responsible if we do not respond in time.
