Awards: Best Strategy DM 2022, Best Thematic DM 2022

This game is played on a 8x7 board with the corners removed, for a total of 52 squares.

At the start of the game, each of these squares will be populated with a random playing card, such that each square has a different card.

The DMO may decide whether they wish to go first or second.

Players then alternate placing pieces on the light grey areas outside the board, until both players have placed 5 pieces.

Pieces may move like chess queens, and may move any number of spaces orthogonally or diagonally.

Players each have 4 deck slots, 1 for each suit.

The aim is to get as many cards as possible into these spots.

Players then take turns moving their pieces to one of the cards in the play area (yellow). The place must either:

• The top card of the matching suit in your stack is less than the card you want to move to (A<2<3<...<9<10<J<Q<K)

• Be occupied by an enemy piece

When a player lands on a card by not capturing, they add a copy of the card to the suit stacks.

The first 5 times an enemy piece is taken, the player gains another copy.

They may spend their turn instead of moving to place it on an unoccupied light grey space.

Pieces cannot move from one light grey space to another, they must move into the yellow play area.

Pieces cannot capture the turn they move into the yellow play area.

The game ends once both players no longer have a valid move.

Once a player has no more valid moves, their pieces are removed from the board. The other player can continue taking turns until they are out of moves.

The players who has the most cards across their suit stacks wins.

If this is a tie, the DMO wins.

Time controls are 1min per turn, with 5 periods of 1 minute of reserve.

If you run out of time, you lose the DeathMatch
