Summary

Manage your stones well, connecting your groups to create the largest one, but keeping the groups separate to place many stones!

Terminology

The game is played on a hexagonal board with 6 hexes per side, shown below:

The board starts out empty and will get filled with players’ stones as the game progresses. Amaranth will use purple stones, and Chaotic will use green stones.

To put a stone on a board, simply state the coordinate of an empty space where you want to put the stone.

A group of stones is a number of stones of one color that occupy adjacent spaces. The size of the group is the number of stones in that group. The owner of the group is the player using the stones of that color. A single green stone is a group of size 1 owned by Chaotic.

🔍 Here are examples of 5 different groups being on the board at the same time. 3 of the groups are Chaotic’s and 2 are Amaranth’s

Empty spaces adjacent to a group are called liberties of that group.

🔍 For example, the stone on K1 has 3 liberties: J1, J2, K2.

The big purple group has 12 liberties.

📖 -- Rules -- 📖

Before the game begins, Amaranth, as the player with higher priority, will choose the First Player. The other player will be the Second Player.

To start the game, the second player will place one stone of their color on the board, then the first player will do the same.

From now on, starting with the First Player and then alternating, players will take turns.

On a turn, a player can put as many stones on the board as they have groups on any empty spaces with the following restrictions:

  • At least 1 stone, and at most 3 stones must be placed.
  • Newly placed stones can’t be placed adjacent to each other.
  • For every group, only 1 liberty can be occupied with a stone. In simpler terms, you may not grow a group by more than one stone.

Players will have 1 minute per turn, plus 5 minutes of reserve time.

🔍 Here is an example of a game in progress. It is Chaotic’s turn.

Chao has 3 groups and so he can place up to 3 stones on the board.

Chao decides to place the stones on H4, G9 and F11. None of the restrictions are broken, so the stones are placed and the turn is passed to Amaranth.

Amaranth has 2 groups, so he can place at most 2 stones.

Placing these stones on A4 and A5 is illegal, because these stones are adjacent to each other.

Placing on E2 and C4 is also illegal, because this will grow the big purple group by 2 stones.

Game End

The game ends when all spaces on the board are filled.
