Black and Yellow

In this Main Match, play your numbers strategically to reach 9 points before your opponents.

Designer(s): XNimus Match Type: MM (for 3 players)
Featured in: Exordium

In this game, players will aim to play the highest black number to earn 9 points.

This game will be played live and once it starts, players will not be allowed to communicate with each other about the game in any way. Before then, communication is allowed.

Each player starts with an inventory of 9 black numbers, numbered 0-8, and a yellow number with a starting value of 0 that can be exchanged with a black number. Each round, players will simultaneously play one of their black numbers. If a black number other than 0 has been submitted, it will be discarded. If a player has discarded all of their non-0 numbers, their inventory of black numbers will be replenished. All inventories are public information.

The player that submits the highest number gains a point. The player that submits the middle number will have their yellow number increase by the difference of the highest number and the middle number. The player that submits the lowest number will have their yellow number increased by the difference of the middle number and the lowest number. If a player's yellow number goes above 8, the number after will be 0, then 1, and so on. At any point, a player may exchange their yellow number for a black number of the same value. Once they do, their yellow number will be reset to 0. A player may spend 3 garnets to increase their yellow number by 1.

In the case of a tie, none of the tied players will gain a point or a change in yellow number.

The game ends once either one player reaches 9 points or after 50 rounds have passed. If a player reaches 9 points, they win a Token of Life and the other two players are automatically put into the Death Match. If 50 rounds pass with no one reaching 9 points, the player with the most points wins. If this is a tie, the tied player with the highest total of black numbers wins. If this is also a tie, the tied player with the highest yellow number wins. If this is also a tie, the tied player with the most garnets remaining wins. If this is also a tie, the tied player with who most recently had the most garnets in the garnet count updates wins (Start of MM6: Anon > Omar > Kotov).
