🚧 Main Match: Double-edged Edges 🚧

When every movement you do also causes someone else to move together, stay on the platform and don't fall on either edge!

You will move on a platform; however, you will also get to choose another player to move along with you, so your actions might help your opponents. Your goal is to score points by staying on the platform and tricking people to jump off the platform; however, screwing over other players is frowned upon, and they will get compensated with points instead. At the end of the game, the player with the most points wins.

RULES

The game takes place on the following 16-space platform. Spaces on the platform are worth various amount of points as shown below. All players start on the indicated space.

In addition, all 9 players have been randomly placed on a 3x3 grid. This grid is relevant for picking partners (explained below). This grid will be revealed at the start of the Round 1.

The game begins with a preparation Round 0, followed by 7 rounds. There is no submission to be made in Round 0; it is solely for you to understand the rules and plan your strategy.

In a round, you will make a movement. A movement consists of three parts: direction, amount, and partner.

  • The direction can either be left or right.
  • The amount can be any positive integer. (For sanity reasons, the integer must be spelled out in digits; e.g. you may not submit "10^100".)
  • The partner is a player other than you, described below.

Recall that all players have been placed on a 3x3 grid. Your partner may be either the player immediately to the right of you or immediately below you in this grid. The grid wraps around; for example, the player on the bottom-right corner can choose either the bottom-left corner (going right, wrapping around), or the upper-right corner (going down, wrapping around).

Your movement must contain all three components. In particular, you must move; it is not allowed to stay in place (because the amount must be a positive integer, not 0). You must choose a partner among the two eligible players (below you and to your right); you are not allowed to move by yourself without a partner, you are not allowed to choose both eligible partners at the same time, and you may only choose among the two eligible players.

If you miss a submission, the following defaults are used:

  • Direction: The direction that brings you closer to the center
  • Amount: 1 space
  • Partner: The player to your right

In addition to your submission, you may spend garnets to bet that your movement partner will be a dumb player (explained below). You will score more points if your bet is correct. You may spend any number of garnets in a single submission.

At the end of the round, the submissions are revealed and evaluated. You and your indicated partner move an amount of spaces indicated by your amount and direction. For this step, the platform is treated to be unlimited; if your submission causes you to go off platform but another submission causes you to move back on the platform, you will end up on the platform.

Then, each player can be one of three types depending on whether they are on the platform and the direction of their movement:

  • Surviving players are players that are on the platform.
  • Dumb players are players that fall off the platform, and their movement direction is the same as the edge they fall from. (e.g. They move right and they fall through the right edge.)
  • Screwed players are players that fall off the platform, but their movement direction is the opposite from the edge they fall from. (e.g. They move right, but they fall through the left edge.)

Scores are decided based on the type of each player.

📌 Each surviving player scores points indicated by the space they are on.

📌 Each screwed player scores 2 points. This is regardless of who pushed them off (i.e. which player has the screwed player as their movement partner).

📌 Dumb players don't score. Instead, all players that push off a dumb player score double points, and also earns 1 garnet each.

In addition, each garnet you spend during your submission increases the point multiplier by two (garnet gain is unaffected). For example, if you spend 1 garnet, you quadruple your score instead of just double. However, note that this only applies if you push off a dumb player; if you don't do so, your garnet is wasted.

In other words: You generally want to survive. If you're screwed by someone else, you'll get points for compensation. And if you manage to trick a player to become dumb, you score double points.

After scoring, all screwed and dumb players are placed back on the starting space on the platform.

After 7 rounds, the game ends. The player with the most points wins. If there is one winner, they get two Tokens of Life. If there are multiple winners, each winner gets one Token of Life, unless there would be 5 or more Tokens of Life distributed, in which case nobody wins any Token of Life. The player with the least points becomes the Elimination Candidate; in case of a tie, all winners vote for the Elimination Candidate.
