Domino Wars

In this Death Match, draft dominoes, and then place those dominoes and use their effects to control more of the board.

Designer(s): RedsToad Match Type: DM (for 2 players)
Featured in: Master Of All Trades

The game is played on a 4x4 board. Players take turn placing dominoes on it to try to fill more space than the opponent.

The game is played with a pool of 21 dominoes. Each domino has 2 numbers on them, ranging from 0 to 6(inclusive), such as the two numbers are different. All unique dominoes make a pool of 21 possible domino.

Before the game players select 8 unique dominoes out of 21 to be used in the game. Note, that every domino has its own power, where dominoes with low numbers have bad control over the board, while dominoes with high numbers have bad effects.

--

After both players have selected their dominoes, their picks are shuffled into their draw pile. At the start of the game both players will draw 3 dominoes from the top of the draw pile into their hand and then 1 more at the end of their turn. If the draw pile is empty, no dominoes are drawn.

Your opponent does not know what is in your draw pile, and you know the contents but don't know the order.

Both players will have a hand of dominoes. During your turn you will play one of the dominoes in your hand on the board, discard that domino, activate the domino's effects, draw one domino from your draw pile and pass the turn to your opponent. If you have no dominoes in your hand then you are unable to play any and your turn is skipped.

Your hand is hidden from your opponent.

Any discarded dominoes will be put in the discard pile. Discard piles are public and are shown to both players during turn updates.

--

To play a tile from your hand you have to have a legal place to place it. The minos of the domino will occupy 1 space each, so every domino will take up 2 out of 16 spaces.

Additionally, to place a domino on the board both spaces have to have a lower number than the corresponding mino, or be empty.

Lastly, first player may only place their dominoes vertically, while 2nd player may only place their horizontally.

After placing the domino, both minos activate their effects in ascending order. The effects are as follows:

0 - You choose a domino from your discard pile to be put on the bottom of your draw pile. 1 - You draw a domino. 2 - You select a domino from your draw pile and put it on the top of the draw pile. 3 - Has no effect. 4 - You discard a domino from your hand and then draw a domino. 5 - You do not draw a domino at the end of your turn. 6 - Your next turn is skipped.

After the effects take place you draw one tile and pass the turn to your opponent. The play continues until both players run out of legal turns. This ends the game and the area covered by the players’ minos is counted. The player who controls more area wins
