DM7-B: Two Wrongs

(DM by Shaun)

-- Setup --

The DM is played over 7 rounds. The goal of each round is to find a cell that breaks at least 2 rules.

The player to win 4 out of the 7 rounds wins the DM.

-- Gameplay --

At the start of each round, a board containing some symbols is revealed. Some cells can be empty.

Along with the board, 2 rules are posted.

Every minute from the round start, a dealer will add an additional rule.

The message containing the first 2 rules will be edited with the new rule added.

In a rare case where the dealers run out of prepared rules for the board before a player solves the round, a dealer will instead add “That’s all” to the rules.

If another minute passes after “That’s all” is appended, the round ends in a tie.

Not all cells will follow every rule. Your goal is to find a cell that breaks at least 2 of the rules.

There might be 0 such cells when the 2 initial rules are revealed, but as more rules are added, more cells will be breaking more rules.

Rules are always formatted in the form of [CELL TYPE] [must / cannot] [conditional].

Here are some examples of rules:

  • Triangles must be adjacent to at least 1 empty cell
  • Circles cannot be touching a Square
  • All symbols must be horizontally adjacent to another symbol.
  • All cells cannot be in a column with 3 or more symbols

⚠️ Only the cell type marked in bold can be called as a cell breaking the rule.

In the first example, if a Triangle is not adjacent to an empty cell, those adjacent cells are still following the rules, only the cell with the Triangle is breaking a rule. Please be careful about this.

Additionally, some rounds may have an italicised rule present. Such rule cannot be broken, it instead modifies some of the rules of this DM or introduces a concept not covered here.

Here is an example of an italicised rule:

Arrows point to the closest non-empty cell in the direction of the arrow.

If you think you have found a cell that breaks 2 rules, say the cell coordinate in the game room, along with which rules it breaks, for example A4 2 4, to say that cell A4 breaks rules 2 and 4.

If you are correct, the round ends in your victory.

If you are incorrect, you can not answer again for 30 seconds. A dealer will tell you when you’re able to answer again.

Here is a list of words that can appear in the rules. Note that this list isn’t complete, some other words can appear, but they should be intuitive enough.

  • Adjacent means sharing an edge. A cell in the middle of the board has 4 adjacent cells
  • Touching means sharing a point. A cell in the middle of the board has 8 touching cells
  • All symbols refers to everything on the board that is not empty.
  • All cells refers to every single cell on the board, regardless if it’s empty or not
  • All cells in row [1-X] refers specifically to the cells in the indicated row.
  • All cells distance [X] from [Y] refers to Manhattan distance, a.k.a. the distance between two cells without making diagonal moves.

-- Example --

Here is an example round!

The first 2 rules are revealed immediately. If you believe that there is no answer with only those 2 rules, click the spoiler tag to reveal the next rule.

  • Triangles must be adjacent to at least 1 empty cell
  • Circles cannot be touching a Square
  • All symbols must be horizontally adjacent to another symbol
  • All cells cannot be in a column with 3 or more symbols
  • Squares cannot be touching a Circle
  • That's all

📌 Amendment: Italicized rules are numbered.

In the following round:

  • this is an example italicized rule that doesn't do anything
  • All cells break this rule
  • All cells break this rule

the answer would be A1 2 3
