Death Match 7: Cookoff
Your goal is to create a dish that will please the judges. However, each judge has a different taste; will you attempt to appeal to all the judges, or will you aim to match the taste of one?
Each berry that will be used in this Death Match has a distinctive flavor as well as a potency associated with that flavor. Some ingredients may have multiple flavors as well. The list of all ingredients and their flavors will be posted following these rules. The five flavors are spicy, dry, sweet, bitter, and sour.
The Death Match will last 15 turns. Each turn of the Death Match will have two phases: Berry Gathering and Cooking. After the 15 turns have ended, there will be one Judging phase.
BERRY GATHERING
In the Berry Gathering phase, players will go out into the field to collect berries. Each player controls 4 harvesters; these are what you will send to get berries. Each round, 6 trees will be revealed with a different berry and a different number of berries on the tree. You may send your harvesters to each tree in any combination. After both players have determined how they are sending their harvesters, each harvester will get the number of berries from the tree divided by the number of harvesters that went to that tree, rounded down.
Each berry will be presented in the Berry Gathering phase 3 times, and there will be three possible quantities for each berry. Below are the possible amounts for each of the berries.
Cheri, Chesto, Pecha, Rawst, Aspear, Razz, Bluk, Nanab, Wepear, Pinap: 3, 3, 4
Tamato, Cornn, Magost, Rabuta, Nomel, Tanga, Charti, Kasib, Haban, Colbur: 2, 3, 4
Leppa, Oran, Persim, Lum, Sitrus, Liechi, Ganlon, Salac, Petaya, Apicot: 2, 2, 3

COOKING
In the Cooking phase, players will use the berries that they have collected to craft their dish in their cooking pot. The cooking pot takes the form of a 5 by 5 grid. While cooking, there are several factors to keep in mind:
Flame Intensity: The flame is strongest at the center of the pot and decreases the further you place the berry from the center.
Cook Time: Each berry takes a total time of 6 to cook. Depending on where it is placed in the pot, it may take longer for the berry to fully cook. In addition, if you leave the berry on the flame too long, it will burn. If a berry reaches a cook time of 8, it will become burned and loses all its flavor.

To cook berries, each round you may place up to 4 berries from your inventory into the pot. Then, after both players have placed their berries, you may move berries around. Each round, you may move up to 4 berries one space in any orthogonal direction, as long as there is not a berry on the spot you want to move to. You may move a berry more than once.
However, what would cooking be without the chance to sabotage your opponent? Each round, you may place up to 2 berries from your inventory on your opponent’s board; this will be announced after each player has placed their berries but before each player moves their berries.
After the berries have been moved, each berry will be cooked according to the flame intensity of the square it is on. Then, each player may choose to remove a portion of their pot as a dish. A dish may be any size, as long as all of the berries in the dish are orthogonally connected. An example is shown below.

In this scenario, the green would be considered a valid dish, as all berries are orthogonally connected, while the red would not be a valid dish, as the berries on B2 and D2 are not orthogonally connected to the rest of the dish.
Once a dish has been removed from the pot, it may no longer be tampered with and is set aside.
JUDGING
Each judge will have a condition that they will be looking for. There are three judges, and each one will have exactly one of the conditions listed below.
“I want the main flavor to be [spicy/dry/sweet/bitter/sour].”
Scoring: (potency of flavor they are looking for) / (potency of opposite flavor)
Opposite of spicy: bitter
Opposite of dry: sour
Opposite of sweet: spicy
Opposite of bitter: dry
Opposite of sour: sweet
The potency of a flavor is determined by taking the longest chain of orthogonally connected berries of that flavor present in the dish and adding the potency of each berry in the chain.
“I want the dish to be [small/medium/large] sized.”
Scoring: The absolute value of (size of dish) - (perfect size)
Small: 1-8 tiles (perfect: 4 tiles)
Medium: 9-17 tiles (perfect: 13 tiles)
Large: 18-25 tiles (perfect: 22 tiles)
“I want the dish to be [raw/slightly raw/medium/well done].”
Scoring: (number of tiles of their desired cook) / (number of tiles of opposite cook)
Raw: Average of tiles are cooked 1 or 2
Slightly raw: Average of tiles are cooked 3
Medium: Average of tiles are cooked 4 or 5
Well done: Average of tiles are cooked 6 or 7
Raw is the opposite of well done and vice versa
Slightly raw is the opposite of medium and vice versa
However, you will not know the criteria of each judge to begin with. At the start of the match, the criteria of the first judge will be revealed. After the fifth round, the criteria of the second judge will be revealed. After the tenth round, the criteria of the third and last judge will be revealed. The order of the criteria of the judge being revealed has been decided prior to the Death Match.
After the fifteenth round, players will select one of their dishes to be judged by the judges, if a player has multiple dishes. The dishes will be graded according to each judge’s conditions; the higher score will win over that judge’s favor.
The player who wins over two of the three judges wins the match. In case of a tie, the winner of the first judge wins the match; in case this is also a tie, the DMO wins.
TIMING
Each player has 60 seconds to submit their worker positionings for the Berry Gathering phase.
Submission format: “I will send [number] worker(s) to the [berry name] tree.”
Each player has 90 seconds to determine where to place their berries.
Submission format: “I will place a [berry name] berry on [coordinate].”
Each player has 45 seconds to determine whether they will sabotage their opponent and if yes, how they will place the berries for sabotaging.
Submission format: “I will sabotage and place a [berry name] berry on [coordinate].” / “I will not sabotage.”
Each player has 45 seconds to determine how to move their berries.
Submission format: “I will move the berry on [coordinate] to [coordinate].”
Each player has 30 seconds to determine whether they would like to remove a dish and if yes, to state the coordinates for the dish.
Submission format: “I remove the dish on [coordinates].”
At the end of the match, each player has 120 seconds to decide which dish they would like to use for the judging.
Each player has 180 seconds of reserve time. If at any point you run out of reserve time, you lose the DM.
Submissions do not have to follow this exact format, as long as I can interpret the meaning clearly. I will take the first valid submission that each player submits.
Clarification: For the judging condition of the main flavor, if the potency of the opposite flavor is 0, then it will be changed to 1 for the scoring process. This is to ensure that no potency reaches infinity.
Amendment: Changed "Majority of tiles by percent" to "Average of tiles" in the Judging section; this is only to allow for simpler calculations for scoring.
Clarification: Submissions don't have to be in the exact format listed, but I just need to be able to understand your meaning unambiguously.
Clarification: For the judge looking at the size of the dish, a lower score is better than a higher score.
Clarification: In a single round, there won't be multiple trees with the same berry.
