Main Match 4A: Genius Planet 457

It’s a reverse survival show! As an up-and-coming entertainment agency, can you recruit trainees to make the most lauded debut album?

This game is an auction-style game, taking place over 7 rounds. Each round, 6 trainees will be up for recruitment, and your goal is to assemble the best team of trainees using your knowledge of the current prominent album critics.

Each agency will be given $100,000 to bid with throughout the course of this Main Match. Money cannot be earned, but garnets can be exchanged for extra money at a rate of 1 garnet to $5,000 (for a maximum of 2 garnets exchanged per round).

Each trainee has a ranking in three categories: dancing, rapping, and singing. These range from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 5 in each of the categories.

Each round, players will submit a bid in multiples of $500 on any of the available trainees. Players may bid on as many trainees as they want, but the amount they spend on bidding may not exceed their total money left. The player with the highest bid on a trainee will receive that trainee and pay the amount that they bid; if there is a tie, the second-highest bid will receive that trainee.

Players also receive an initial 6 trainees, each with a ranking of 3 in each of the three categories. After the seventh round of bidding, players will then have 24 hours to create a final lineup of seven trainees to form the final group. These groups will then release an album to be judged by the five judges shown below.

The five judges each have their own criteria to give ratings for each one of the albums. These criteria are listed below:

Judge A: Ranks based on the average ranking of the singing category.

  • 1st: 5 points
  • 2nd: 4 points
  • 3rd: 3 points
  • 4th: 2 points
  • 5th: 1 point

Judge B: Ranks based on the average ranking of the dancing category.

  • 1st: 5 points
  • 2nd: 4 points
  • 3rd: 3 points
  • 4th: 2 points
  • 5th: 1 point

Judge C: This judge wants the balance of skills to be all-around. The standard deviation of the averages of singing, dancing, and rapping must be as small as possible to score this judge’s appeal; the smallest standard deviation is the 1st place.

  • 1st: 10 points
  • 2nd: 8 points
  • 3rd: 6 points
  • 4th: 4 points
  • 5th: 2 points

Judge D: Judge D wants a clear focus in the group: players will be scored based on the value of A - (B+C), where A is the highest average ranking. The highest positive value is first place.

  • 1st: 7 points
  • 2nd: 5 points
  • 3rd: 3 points
  • 4th: 2 points
  • 5th: 1 point

Judge E: This judge is strange, and wants a specific combination of rankings. This judge wants a ranking of 3 on singing, 2 on rapping, and 4 on dancing; the group with the smallest distance from this value overall (i.e. the distances in each category are added up) is in 1st.

  • 1st: 10 points
  • 2nd: 6 points
  • 3rd: 3 points
  • 4th: 1 point
  • 5th: 0 points

If players tie in any of the criteria (i.e. for 2nd and 3rd place), both players will receive the average of the points of those places.

The player with the highest number of points receives a single Token of Life, while the player with the least number of points is the Elimination Candidate. If there is a tie for the player with the highest number of points, all players involved in the tie will receive Tokens of Life, except if three or four players tie for the highest number, in which case no Tokens of Life will be awarded. If there is a tie for the player with the least number of points, the winner(s) will select the Elimination Candidate.

Clarification: All bids will be revealed at the end of each auction round.

Addendum: Players will receive 1 garnet for every four points they earned, rounded down (so if you received 15 points, you earn 3 garnets).

Addendum: If you fail to complete a full set of 7 trainees by the end of the auction period, you will be given a trainee with rankings of 0/0/0.

Clarification: For Judge D, the condition should read "The highest value is first place"; this is in case all players receive a negative value for this judge.

Clarification: If you are outbid on a trainee, you will receive your bid back. Essentially, only the winner of the bid will pay the price.
