⚔ Counterbluff ⚔
This game has not been used in any The Genius ORG before. This game was created by David Parlett.
The goal of the game is to play cards from your hand to make the best poker hand... or to bluff your way to it.
RULESThis game assumes you are familiar with a standard 52-card deck, as well as the list and ranking of poker hands. If you are not familiar with them, plaese look at the following articles:
The game is played with a standard 52-card deck. At the beginning of the game, the deck is shuffled randomly. The deck is face down; neither player knows its contents.
Each player begins with a private hand of 10 cards that only they may see.
The game is played in rounds. After each round, one player wins and scores points, and then each player refills their hand. When the deck is exhausted and a player doesn't have enough cards left in hand, the game ends.
Decide the starting player. Players take alternate turns. In future rounds, the winner of the previous round starts.
On your turn, you must play a card into the round or fold. You must play at least one card to the round before being allowed to fold.
If both players play five cards into the round without either player folding, then the player with the better poker hand wins the round; in case of a tie, neither player wins. Otherwise, the player that doesn't fold wins.
The winner scores points corresponding to how many cards were played in total into the round:
Cards played 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
Points gained 3 6 10 15 21 28 36 45 55
Discard all played cards and draw from the deck, one by one card starting from the winner, until you have 10 cards in hand or the deck is empty. Then begin the next round.
The game ends after a round when a player has 4 or less cards remaining in hand. The player with more points wins. In case of a tie, the player that wasn't the starting player at the beginning of the game wins.
ADMINISTRATIONMake your moves in the public game room. State which card you play.
Information revealed in public game room: players' scores, number of cards in each player's hands, the fact that the deck runs out when it happens, the fact that a move is illegal when it happens.
Information revealed in private channel: your hand at the beginning of each round. In particular, you must keep track of which cards you've played this round.
Warning: You may not take any notes during the game.
Time controls: 5 periods of 1 minute. I will take the first unambiguous legal move you make each turn. If you attempt to play a card not in your hand, I will announce that publicly (giving information to your opponent) and you must make a different move.
