| Designer(s): RedsToad | Match Type: MM (for 6 players) |
| Featured in: The Genius: Code Redone | |
Travel through time and reproduce important bacteria to become the richest scientists out there!
Don't spend too much, however, as the unbeatable force of supply and demand isn't bound by linearity of time.
-- Setup --
The game is played over 5 rounds, each lasting 24 hours.
However, the game is played in reverse, so round 5 is the first round to be played, then round 4, then 3, 2, 1 and then the game results are posted.
Before the game begins, however, we will play a mock round 1 and then a mock round 2, to aid in rules understanding. You will find more about those at the end of the rules.
In this MM players will reproduce time travelling bacteria.
Players may buy vital bacteria for 5 gold a batch.
If a batch of bacteria isn't used in a round, it dies, hardens, and is automatically sold for 1 gold.
Hardened bacteria can't be used for anything. You can't reproduce what's dead.
All bacteria automatically hardens at the end of the 5th round.
-- Machines and Submissions --
Each round, a number of machines are revealed.
In round 1, there are 4 machines: Red, Blue, Green and Yellow
In rounds 2 and 3, there are 5 machines: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and Purple
In rounds 4 and 5, there are 6 machines: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow ,Purple and Gray.
Remember that the rounds progress in reverse order! The round with the 4 machines will be played last!
Each machine will have a Batch Limit for that round.
All bacteria batches under the limit will be put into the machine, where they can double in count, creating 2 batches for every 1 batch put in.
These batches are kept vital and are returned to the players to use again in the next round.
All bacteria batches above the limit can not be put in the machine and die :(
These harden and are automatically sold.
✏️ Each round, decide how many batches of bacteria to put in each machine.
However, you must leave one machine empty.
The submissions are processed in order from lowest to highest, with ties broken by priority.
For example, if the Red machine's batch limit is 10 and there are 4 submissions from players that put in 3, 4, 5 and 6 batches respectively, then the first 2 submissions are processed fully, whereas only 3 out of the 5 batches that the third player submitted are processed.
The submission of the 4th player is fully ignored, as the Red machine has already reached its resource limit.
As a result, 1st player is given 6 vital batches, 2nd player gets 8 vital batches, 3rd player gets 6 vital batches and 2 coins, 4th player gets 0 vital batches and 6 coins.
-- Time Travel Shenanigans --
As you're progressing backwards through time, you don't know how much bacteria you will have by that round.
Make your best guess, I've tried my best to make the MM as fair and as playable as possible.
For example, your round 5 (which is played first) submission might look something like "120 to Red, 50 to Blue." At that point you don't know that you will be able to make 170 batches in round 4, but that's your new goal for that round.
If you manage to create more bacteria than you already used in the next round, leftover bacteria is sold for 1 gold a batch. Good for you!
However, if you happen to create less than what you used in the next round, you'll have to purchase additional vital bacteria for 5 gold a batch. Oh no!
Both of these happen automatically based on the difference between your result of round X and your submission of round X+1. You will be informed of this happening.
-- Game End --
The game ends after all 5 rounds have been played.
All hardened bacteria is sold for 1 gold a batch, this includes both the batches made in round 5 and the batches that were created over the required amount.
All vital bacteria required is purchased for 5 gold a batch, this includes both the bacteria required in round 1 and the ones that the player failed to revitalise during the game.
The player with the most gold at the end of the game wins 2 ToL.
The player with second most gold at the end wins 1 ToL.
Players will receive 1 garnet for every 10 gold collected.
The player with the least gold is the EC.
-- Administration --
Revealed publicly, each round
Revealed privately, each round
- How many batches were processed in each machine, and how many of your batches went over limit
- The amount of batches you sold or puchased based on the difference between a round's output and next round's input.
Revealed publicly, at the end of the game
-- On the topic of Fairness and Mock rounds.--
It is important to note that every round will produce somewhere between 90% and 115% of what can be inputted in the next round
Say the round 1 machines sum up to 50 batch limit total. This means that round 1 outputs 100 batches, and that means round 2 has a total input somewhere between 90 and 115 batches.
To aid in rules understanding, instead of the pregame, there will be 2 mock, fake rounds, played in forwards order. These rounds will have brand new, fake machines for you to submit to.
At the end of the 2 mock rounds, all submissions will be revealed in reverse order, to show how the game would actually be processed, and how midgame buying and selling affects the game and score.
Then the results of the 2 rounds are completely discarded and the actual game will begin.
For Blood Garnet purposes these 2 mock rounds will count as 2 deadlines.
⚠️During the mock game, purchasing a vital batch will cost 2 coins instead of 5. Still, I expect some of you to end up with a negative score; the game is a lot less interesting with 2 rounds instead of 5.
This MM has no garnet purchases. Sorry, I couldn't come up with one that makes the game more interesting.. Garnets are likely to be of little use from now on, I'll specifically make them rather weak in f5 and f4.
📌 Clarification: At least one machine must be left empty, not exactly one.
📌Amendment: Submitting more than 1e9 batches in a round will cause me to estimate your score.
