DM1 - A Battle of Fire and Ice

(DM by Shaun and Penzo)

Carve out ground for yourself and leave your opponent without a legal move!

Be careful, as the colors don’t mix well.

-- Setup --

The game is played on a 9x9 grid, shown below. At the start of the game, E4 and E5 are occupied by a white-white domino.

Dominoes consist of 2 connected halves. One half is white and the other half is red or blue. A domino takes 2 spaces on the grid, with each half occupying 1 space.

The EC, Emik, is playing as Fire and places only white-red dominoes.

The DMO, Hamzeh, is playing as Ice and places only white-blue dominoes.

The DMO, Hamzeh, chooses who goes first when the game begins.

-- Gameplay --

Players alternate taking turns, starting with the first player.

✏️On your turn, place your type of domino on the grid, with the following restrictions:

  • Dominoes may not overlap
  • The new domino must connect to existing dominoes
  • The new domino must connect only to the same color.

Dominoes connect if they are in adjacent spaces. Dominoes that touch on the corners do not connect.

Here are some examples of legal and illegal moves:

-- Game End --

The game ends when a player has no legal moves. That player loses the DM and is eliminated from Simply Genius.

The other player receives 1 garnet and gets to rejoin the other players in the next episode.

-- Administration --

This game has no private information.

Please make your moves in #dm1-game-room

To make your move, name 2 adjacent coordinates. You don’t have to name the colors of the halves; if the move is legal then there is only 1 possible orientation.

A Dealer will take the first legal move a player makes, unless it is taken back within 5 seconds. Double check your moves!

Players are given 1 minute for their turn. If a player exceeds this minute, they have 5 minutes of reserve time to use over the course of the whole DM.

If a player runs out of reserve time, they automatically concede the DM.

The timer starts after a Dealer posts the image with the current game position. The timer doesn’t count down while a Dealer is processing your move.

A Dealer will give time reminders at 30s left, 5s left and entering reserve time.

Upon entering reserve time, you will get time reminders every 30 seconds of reserve time used.

After making a move using reserve time, you will be updated to how much reserve you have left.
