Mystery Math

In Mystery Math, players will compete to figure out what numbers a mysterious series of symbols represent.

The following symbols each represent a numerical digit of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. Each unique digit is represented exactly once among the set of symbols.

🔪 💪 🔥 🎉💀 ⭐ 💎 🏈 ❤️ 🤖

In a given round of Mystery Math, a player can do one of the following actions. Players will have up to one minute to submit an action, with ten minutes of reserve time throughout the entire match.

Draft

  • Draft one of the digit/number symbols that hasn't been drafted yet.
  • Each player will be able to draft a maximum of five symbols throughout the game.

Investigate

  • There are five "machines" present, each with a mysterious symbol in the center and a left side and the right side.
  • The mysterious symbol in the center of the machine is a single-character operation (this could be addition, subtraction... any kind of mysterious mathematical operation)
  • The investigator can arrange and place number symbols on the left and right side of the machine, with the operation symbol in the center. The investigator must use exactly one of each symbol in their output.
  • Both the investigator and the other player will know what symbols the investigator place and their arrangements

The investigator will receive the first ten characters of the output of the equation created. The other player will only receive the last two symbols of the first ten characters of the output.

Notes on other symbols

There will be 5 operation symbols used in the game.

There will be 9 other symbols that will also be used in the game.

They each represent a single character - representing any letter, number, punctuation, notation, mathematical symbol....

Solve

Once a player has five symbols, they can attempt to "solve" all the symbols that they have in their inventory.

They can take up to five minutes of thinking time.

If they successfully solve their symbols, then they win the match.

If one of their symbols is incorrect, then their opponent will choose one of the equation or number symbols and publicly reveal its value to both players.

That opponent will then take their turn as normal.

Note that there is no special pattern to the symbols - the values of each symbol have been randomly selected.

Finish

Players will alternate actions until one player solves successfully.

This player will win the second finals game of Genius One.

CaptainMeme, as the loser of the previous match, will choose who goes first in this game.

Awesome will have the "DMO Advantage" in the final game if the set goes to match 3.

100 Turn Rule

If after each player has taken 50 actions, neither player has solved, both players will try to solve simultaneously for five minutes.

The players will try to solve all ten digit and operation symbols.

We will count how many of their own symbols both players solved, with the player solving the most of their own five winning.

If both players solved equal amounts, the winner will be whoever solved the most digit and operation symbols overall.

In the case of a tie again, the player who went second wins in this scenario.

You may use a calculator, spreadsheet, whatever notes you like during the dm.

You may not use ChatGPT, look up resources (such as wikipedia, forums pages, etc. or code a computer program to help solve)
