Donut Dilemma

Five pairs of players begin the game in each of the five "bakeries" (the boxes shown below).

You will know both which bakery you start on and which player you started with. Your initial locations and partner were "randomly" determined based on your ranking of favorite donuts, with ties in rankings broken by influence from the previous match.

Note that this game is played individually. These "pairs" are only relevant for your starting position.

The game itself takes place over the course of 4 rounds. In a given submission, players will take two actions - they will move and make donuts. (You both move and make donuts in a submission for a given round)

Move

For your movement, you can move to an adjacent bakery or stay in the same bakery (same or adjacent square).

If you make no submission, you will stay in the same location. Here is a list of all "adjacent" bakeries.

A-B

B-C

C-D

D-E

E-A

Say the letter of the bakery you're moving to, or if you're staying at the same location.

The bakery you end the round at will be the bakery you start in next round.

Bake Donuts

You will then make donuts, making any number of donuts at the bakery you have moved to. You will make some number of plain and special donuts in combination.

Plain Donuts

In your submission, you can make between 0 and 11 plain donuts. You score a point for each plain donut you made, as long as 13 or fewer donuts were made in your bakery.

In this match, "your bakery" refers to the bakery you moved to in your submission (or the bakery you stayed in, if you chose to stay in your bakery) The total number of donuts made in "your bakery" in a given turn is the sum of the donuts you make there (the count of your plain and special donuts) and the sum of all donuts other players have also made in that bakery (after all movements for that round have been processed).

For example, if Player Alice starts in Bakery A and submits move to B, and Player Bob starts in Bakery C and moves to B, and no one else moves or stays in B, the total number of donuts made in "your bakery" is the sum of the donuts made by Alice and Bob in Bakery B. It is not the total of donuts made in A or C

Special Donuts

You can only make 1 special donut per round (unless you've made some Jelly Donuts in the previous round). These donuts can score you points in a variety of different ways.

Glazed Donut

Glazed Donuts are worth 1 point for each Glazed you make. Additionally, both your Plain and Glazed donuts will score even if more than 13 donuts were made in your bakery.

For example, if I made 11 Plain Donuts and 2 Glazed Donuts, and 15 donuts were made in the bakery total.... I would score 13 points.

This effect only lasts one round. If I made a Glazed Donut Round 1, and did not make any Glazed Donuts Round 2, I might not score with the Plain Donuts I make in Round 2.

Rainbow Sprinkles

Assign a number to the donut. If that was the number of donuts made during the round across all bakeries, score that number of points with that Rainbow Sprinkles Donut.

Note this will still score even if more than 13 donuts were made in your bakery.

Each Rainbow Sprinkles is scored separately - if I make 2 Rainbow Donuts, and assign a number of 50 to one, and 60 to another, and the number of donuts made that round is 50... then I score 50 points.

If I make 2 Rainbow Donuts, and assign a number of 50 to one, and 50 to the second one, and 50 donuts were made that round... I score 100 points.

Strawberry Donut

If exactly 13 donuts total were made in your bakery, score 8 points per player present in that bakery (including yourself).

Score each Strawberry Donut separately, if you made multiple Strawberry Donuts.

Coffee Donut

Bake this donut in any bakery, not just the one you moved to in your submission. Score 4x the number of players who ended up on that bakery (after movement from submissions were processed).

This is not counted for the total of donuts made in your bakery (unless you decided to bake this in your own bakery).

(Note that this scores even when more than 13 donuts are made in a bakery)

Jelly Donut

Allows you to make one additional special donut next turn, for each jelly donut you make.

If I make 1 Jelly Donut... I can make (1+1) 2 special donuts next turn.

If I make 2 Jelly Donuts... I can make (1+2) 3 special donuts next turn.

If I make 1 Jelly Donut and another special donut... I can make (1+1) 2 special donuts next turn.

If I make 2 Jelly Donuts and another special donut... I can make (1+2) 3 special donuts next turn.

If I make 3 Jelly Donuts... I can make (1+3) 4 special donuts next turn.

This effect does not persist.

If I make 1 Jelly Donut turn 1, I can make 2 special Donuts turn 2.

If I make 0 Jelly Donuts turn 2, I will only be able to make 1 special donut turn 3.

Garnet Spending

In this main match, you can spend any number of garnets to make extra Plain Donuts beyond the cap of 11 donuts per turn.

Announcements and Scoring

The total number of donuts made each round will be publicly announced, along with the number (but not the type) of donuts made in each bakery.

You will privately learn your scores and your current placement. When players are tied, they will all be given the lower placement. You will not learn who is in what bakery (even your own)!

At the end of the game, I will announce each player's final score, and the final locations of each baker.

You earn 1 garnet for having at least 50 points, 2 garnets for at least 60 points, and 3 garnets for winning the game.

The player with the most points wins and receive three Tokens of Life.

The loser will be the player with the least amount of points. They will be 4th EC of the series.

If all plain donuts score in the first two rounds, the prize pool will increase by $10.
