MM2 - Trail Trouble

(Main Match by RedsToad)

If the last Main Match was called Pear Pairs, we could’ve named this one Four Forks…

-- Setup and Positions --

This MM is played over 4 rounds, 24 hours each.

Players start the MM in a single file line along the Trail Track.

Placing well in the last MM puts you further along the track at the start of the game.

You can see the exact starting order in #ep2-announcements

During the MM, these positions will change. Think of these positions as racing; if a person in 2nd position gains 1 position, then they will overtake the 1st player and become 1st position and the player previously in 1st will drop to 2nd.

Generally, if a player gains some number of positions, they will overtake that many players, unless those players also gain enough positions to avoid being overtaken!

This includes the player in 1st! While there is no 0th position, they can hold their place in line by gaining positions in case someone wants to overtake them.

-- Submissions and Coins --

Each round, players are presented with 4 forks in the road, either Left or Right path.

:pencil2: To submit, select which way you’re going for each of the 4 forks.

The choices can give you a garnet, positions, or they can give you coins.

Coins are this game’s currency. All players start with 0 coins.

Some choices require you to pay a number of coins to be able to take the path.

Obviously, if you don’t have the coins, you can’t take the path. There will always be at least one path in each choice that costs no coins.

:garnet: However, if you really want to take a coin path, you can pay 1 garnet to take the path without paying the coin requirement. Please specify that you wish to do that when taking the path. You may spend a garnet to take the path even if you have the required number of coins.

Some paths will be conditional, and only a certain number of players can take it.

There are 2 different types of such conditionals. First limits the total number of players that can take that path. The other requires a number of players who are ahead of you on the Trail Track to take this path.

Important to note, if you take a path with a conditional, but you aren’t able to satisfy it, then nothing happens for that path.

-- Minor Details --

The choices are processed from top to bottom. Coins you get in one choice you can immediately use in a future choice in the same round.

The changes in position are also processed immediately after each choice.

At the end of the round, everyone’s new positions are revealed. You don’t know who chose which path at each fork, only the overall positions after the 4 forks of the round.

Coin counts are not revealed publicly. You will learn your coin count at the start of each round.

If a player doesn’t submit in a round, they take the Right path at all 4 forks.

-- Game End --

The game ends after 4 rounds.

:ToL: The first 3 players on the Trail Track get a ToL each.

:EC: The player that is last on the Trail Track is EC.

:EC: Out of the remaining 6 players, the player with the least coins is the other EC. If there is a tie for least coins, the player further back on the track loses.

The coin count of the losing player isn’t revealed. It is not announced whether a tiebreak was used.

The player with the least coins will get to choose their DMO first.

-- Iconography --

This MM will use shorthand text and emoji to shorten the text to present the forks.

The two paths are always separated with a /

+X:coin: = Gain X coins

+X:position: = Gain X positions

+:garnet: = Gain 1 garnet

-X:coin: = Pay X coins

If <X:people: = If at most X people take this path...

If >X:people: = If at least X people take this path...

If >X:peopleahead: = If at least X players ahead of you take this path...

Here is an example of a fork:

+1 :coin: / -1 :coin:, +3 :position:

In words, the choices given are

Gain 1 coin OR Pay 1 coin to gain 3 positions.
