MM2: Pit of Serpents

Step lightly, for beneath the surface, the serpents slither and prey mingle. Outsmart them, survive, and strike when it counts.

This game is a custom social deception game inspired by strategic movement and hidden roles.

🐍 Gameplay

The game takes place over 5 rounds, each lasting 15 minutes, with a 10-minute pregame for setup and discussion.

In each round, all players simultaneously choose one of three rooms (A, B, C) to enter. Rooms have no player limit.

πŸƒ Every player has a Block card β€” that they can use to prevent one other player from entering a specific room for 1 round. If a player is blocked from their chosen room, they will automatically move to the room immediately to the right (with rooms wrapping from rightmost to leftmost). If a player is blocked from all three rooms, they are ** unblocked** from all rooms and go to their original chosen room.

πŸƒ Each player also receives a Double card, which can be played once during the game. If they score points in the round they play it, their points are doubled.

Block and Double cards cannot be transferred.

At the end of each round, players are privately told whether or not they scored a point. Final scores are revealed at the end.

πŸ‘‘ Winning

The player with the most points wins two Tokens of Life. If there is a tie, all tied players win one Token of Life each.

The player with the fewest points is the Elimination Candidate.

🐍 Snake Roles (3)

These players are hunters trying to strike at the right prey.

  • 2 Vipers – Score 1 point if they end the round in a room with at least one prey and no Constrictor.
  • 1 Constrictor – Scores 1 point if in a room with at least 1 Viper or at least 1 Mice.

🐭 Prey Roles (9)

These players aim to survive and find safety in numbers.

  • 3 Mice – Score 1 point if they are in a room with ONLY Prey
  • 2 Hedgehogs – Same scoring as Mice, but they cannot be eaten by the Constrictor.
  • Nesting Bird – Scores 1 point if in the room with the most players. Scores nothing otherwise.
  • Trout – Only wins if they correctly guess all player roles at the end of Round 5.
  • Leech – Chooses a target each round. If both are in the same room and the target scores a point, the Leech steals the point. The target is not notified that they scored and lost it, only that they did not score. Scores nothing otherwise.
  • Chameleon – Each round, randomly copies another role’s ability (except Trout).

πŸ”„ Special Interactions

  • If a Double card is played by someone the Leech is targeting, and that player scores, the Leech will steal only 1 point. The target will still gain 1 point.

  • If the Leech plays their Double card and successfully steals a point, they will gain 2 points that round. The target will still be told they did not score, the target only lost 1 point if they did not play their Double card.

  • The Trout will gain 1 point if they are in a room with ONLY Prey roles. However, points do not determine if the Trout wins β€” only a perfect role guess at the end of Round 5.

  • If multiple players block the same room for one person, it has no additional effect β€” a room is either blocked or not. If a player is already blocked from all 3 rooms, any extra blocks targeting them do nothing further.

πŸ’Ž Garnet Advantages

  • You may purchase an additional block for 3 garnets.
  • You cannot use more than one block in the same round

πŸ† Garnet Payout

  • Earn 1 garnet for 4 points.
  • Earn 2 garnets for 5 or 6 points.
  • Winners receive 1 garnet.
