Main Match 7

In Poker Auction, players will try to build the best 5 card poker hand they can by bidding on the 52 cards in the deck.

In the first round, players will bid on a power. You will submit a number of chips to spend, and rank the powers you want from first to last. For example, I could submit 20 chips and Spades > Diamonds > Hearts > Clubs > Joker. The player who spends the most chips will get their first choice, the player who spends the second most chips will get their first choice (if available) and if not then their second choice, and so on. Garnets is used as a tiebreaker if two players bid an equal amount of chips.

The powers are below:

Spades: All cards with no valid bids will be given to the Spades player.

Diamonds: Once per game, you may choose a card and keep all chips that are bid on a card (even if that card is destroyed).

Hearts: You may specify that if you win a bid on a card that you will give it to another player (but only when you are submitting the bid).

Clubs: Once per game, you may destroy a card that is up for auction (players will not know card is destroyed until round is over. chips bid on card will also be destroyed).

Joker: +26 chips.

After everyone's powers are determined, the bidding rounds will commence.

In a given round, all cards of a certain suit will be auctioned You may bid as many or as few chips on as many of the cards as you wish.

However, even if you do not win an auction on a given card, you will still spend your chips. Each player starts with 104 chips total.

=================================================

If two players both tie for the highest amount bid on a card, then the player who has the next highest amount bid will win the card. If there's a tie, then the next highest player... etc. If there are no valid bids, it will go to the player with the Spades power.

In Round 1, Clubs will be auctioned off. In Round 2, Diamonds. In Round 3, Hearts. In Round 4, Spades.

You will know what card(s) each player received after a round, but not how many chips they spent.

After all auction rounds, players will create the highest 5-card hand they can out of all the cards they own (the hosts will do this so you will always submit your best possible hand).

Any player who fails to have 5 cards in their hand will automatically become E.C. Otherwise, the player who creates the lowest-ranking 5 card poker hand out of all the cards they own will become E.C., and the player who creates the highest ranking hand will earn 2 tokens of life and 5 garnets.

The rules for hand rankings will be listed in #hand-rankings channel.

You will know which player has what power

If you somehow spend more chips than you have on hand, I don't catch it, and you acquire cards that way :thonk: then you will be auto ec. (sad)

but hopefully that won't happen.

If there is no valid bids on a card, I will say so and give the card to Spades. If there are invalid bids on a card and it goes to a player who bid lower, I will say something along the lines of "Sam got the card because of invalid bids."

Hand Rankings are as follows -

Straight Flush

Cards are consecutive and of the same suit. For example

Ace of Clubs, 2 of Clubs, 3 of Clubs, 4 of Clubs, 5 of Clubs.

Aces can either be 1 (low) or 14 (high/above king) but they cannot be both.

A straight flush is ranked higher than another straight flush if it has a higher number. If we both have the same highest number, then the player with the higher suit wins. (Spades > Hearts > Diamonds > Clubs).

4 of a Kind

4 Cards are all same number. (Ex: King-King-King-King). In case of tie, then higher number wins.

Full House

1 three of a kind, and 1 pair. In case of a tie, the Full House with a higher three of a kind wins.

Flush

All cards of the same suit. In case of a tie, the flush containing the highest number wins.

Straight

5 consecutive cards. Aces can be high or low but not both. In case of a tie, the straight with the highest number wins. (If highest nums are the same, then use suit as a tiebreaker).

Three of a Kind

3 cards of the same number. In case of tie, check which three of a kind uses the highest number.

Two Pair

2 pairs of cards. If there is a tie, player with the highest pair wins. (If they have same high pair, check second-highest pair. If both are same, use suits as tiebreaker).

Pair

2 cards that are the same. If there is a tie, player with the highest pair wins. (If they have same pair, use high suit as tiebreaker).

High Card

You have none of the above. In a tie, we check the highest card you have (use suit as tiebreaker) to determine winner.
