Death Match 1: Magician’s DUEL
Summary:
Uh oh, something really unusual has happened. Like, bad unusual. The Strange has taken over and the players have had their souls bound to the other six magicians and it seems like the magic that each of you is using is no longer just for show. In a series of one-on-one matches, these magicians will fight for their lives by casting spells at each other in a battle to the death.
Gameplay:
In this game, you will be casting spells at your opponent while moving around on an 8x8 stage. Each player will begin with 5 lives, and 1 life will be lost each time the player is hit with a damaging spell. There are 6 spell cards that you can choose from, and you will have a limited supply of each determining what abilities are available to you. A spell can be either a Mobility Spell or a Damaging Spell.
Mobility Spells: Cape, Rabbit, Pigeon
Damaging Spells: C.Ball, Deck, Wand
Mobility Spells:
In each image, the player character is depicted by the blue square. The possible movements are depicted by the green squares. You may not make a movement that takes your character off of the board.
Damaging Spells:
In each image, the player character is depicted by the blue square. The entire area of attacks are depicted by the yellow squares.
Before the game begins, each player will select 5 spells that they would like to bring to the duel. You can select the same spell multiple times. These selections will be done in private. Additionally, both players will select a square that they would like to begin on. The EC must select one of the squares in the top half of the board among rows 1-4, while the DMO must select one of the squares in the bottom half of the board among rows 5-8. On the game board, the EC will be represented by blue, and the DMO will be represented by red unless the players both agree to change these.
Turns are played simultaneously. Each turn, both players will submit three spells that they are using in the order that they are being used and the location for any Mobility Spells being used. The spells will execute in that order simultaneously in a 3-update manner. During these updates, Mobility Spells are processed before Damaging Spells.
After each turn is processed, each player will gain any spells that were not used by their opponent during the turn.
Time Controls:
Each player will have 1 minute per turn. Each player will also have 5 minutes of reserve time, which will be automatically used in 30 second increments when the normal timer runs out.
Due to timers stopping upon a valid submission being made, your first valid submission will be the one used.
If a player uses up all of their reserve periods, The Strange’s grasp on their soul becomes unstable and that player will collapse and the player is reduced to 0 lives.
Result:
The player who is reduced to 0 lives first will be the loser of the Death Match.
If both players are reduced to 0 lives during the exact same update of the same turn, then the DMO will be declared the winner.
Addendum: You may not repeat using the exact 3 spells that you used in the previous turn; you must deviate at least 1 or more of the spells in the subsequent submission
Clarification: Players’ locations and spell inventories are public information.
Here are the magicians that the death match players have had their souls bound to based on most number of interactions
Players can either be represented by this magician or a smiley face, depending on their preference
Clarification: Within 1 turn, there are 3 updates that occur. Each update will be accompanied by an image update that shows which spells each players cast during that move. During each individual update, the mobility spells are processed before damaging spells.
Clarification: There is not a rule against using the same spell more than once in a turn; you can use the same spell any number of times as long as you have them. However, note that your opponent will gain every spell that you do not name
