Main Match 1: Magician’s Market
Summary:
In a game of hectic haggling, players will control markets to sell magic goods to an unusual band of performing magicians. These same marketeers, however, are also the ones who will bid for obtaining magicians to come perform at their show and earn based on the success of those magicians. Who will make the most money in this strange niche market?
Gameplay:
This game will take place over the series of 7 rounds indicated by days. During this time you will be making submissions that reflect both your market operations and your magician bidding, meaning that there will be a total of 7 submissions before the game ends.
Each day will have the following order of operations:
The 6 magic goods are as follows: Capes, Crystal Balls, Decks of Playing Cards, Rabbits, Pigeons, and Wands
You will each begin the game with one of each of the magic goods as well as 10 coins. At the beginning of the game, every magic good will start with a price of 1 coin.
For your market operations, you will indicate three different magic goods that you will be generating this round. You will receive those three goods. However, the three magic goods that you do not name during this selection will magically go up in price on the market by 1 up to a price limit of 15.
Once per round, you may spend 5 coins to generate 1 additional magic good. This will not cause any price increases.
During market operations, you may also gift goods to another player, but coins cannot be gifted. Players may not reject gifts. You may gift goods that you have generated during this day.
At this time, the 7 magicians will now visit the markets and purchase goods. They will purchase these goods at their current market value, but the player who they will purchase from is determined by their tastes. Their tastes are outlined in #meet-the-magicians . Whenever goods are sold, their prices will drop by the number of goods sold in that transaction to a minimum of 1. This drop is processed after all sales take place. Whenever a magician needs to round a number in their calculation for how many goods they will purchase, they will always try to round up. If there is a tie for two different markets meeting the magician’s taste, the magician will pick neither. If two or more magicians try to purchase the same good from the same market at the same time, the magicians who are purchasing fewer of the good will purchase first; the number that they are attempting to purchase will not change, though.
Auctioning will occur next, where you will offer your coins to 1 magician of your choice to get them to come perform at your show tonight. The magician will take these coins regardless of whether or not you are the highest bidder. If you are the highest bidder, the magician will come perform at your show during the next step.
All 7 magicians who were offered at least 1 coin will attend the highest bidding show and perform there. The amount of coins that they earn at their performance will be based on the magician’s skill level. Their skill level, of course, is determined by the goods that they obtained during that day. For every unique magic good that a magician has, they will earn the player 3 coins. Additionally, for the magic good that the magician carries the most of, they will earn the player 2 coins per each. If a magician brings all 6 magic goods to their show, they will earn the player a bonus of 10 coins.
Note 1: Market operations are revealed publicly, whereas bids are not revealed publicly. Coins will be hidden information, while goods owned and prices of goods will be known to all players. It will be announced which show each magician goes to.
Note 2: If a magician is not offered coins from any players, they will maintain their goods into the next day.
Note 3: If a player does not make a submission, they will not generate any goods and no prices will be adjusted by them.
Results
The 4 players with the top four most coins at the end of the game will earn Tokens of Life for themselves. Additionally, the player with the most coins may grant one more Token of Life to another player who is not Elimination Candidate. If there are more than 4 players who have the top four most coins via a tie, the amount of Tokens of Life given out will be reduced such that the players with the fewest coins among the top 4 do not receive Tokens of Life.
The elimination candidates will be the three players with the fewest coins at the end of the game. These players will be numbered according to the amount of coins they have, determining their pick priority during the upcoming death matches.
For every 100 coins you have at the end of the match, you will obtain 1 garnet.
Example Submission
The following depicts an example submission:
“Generate wand, cape, and pigeon. Spend 5 coins to generate an additional wand. Gift three decks of playing cards to TGXAndy. Bid 13 coins on Jackie."
Here, the player will obtain one of each of a wand, a cape, and a pigeon. They will also lose 5 coins and obtain another wand. They will lose three decks of playing cards, and the player TGXAndy must accept these decks of playing cards. This player will lose 13 coins, but will have Jackie as their magician at their show if they are the highest bidder.
For this example, let’s assume that Jackie ends up obtaining the following magic goods: 2 wands, 6 crystal balls, and 1 cape. This player would obtain 3 coins per unique good that they have, totaling 9 coins. They would also obtain 2 coins per crystal ball since it is Jackie’s most carried item, totaling 12 coins. Since Jackie only has 3 out of the 6 goods this round, she will not be earning the player the 10 coin bonus. In total, this player has earned 21 coins from this show, thus making an 8 coin profit from the bid that they made on this magician.
Clarification: When deciding the order that different magicians will purchase if they are buying the same good from the same market, the magicians tastes from bottom to top will determine the order. (The higher numbered operation occurs first)
Clarification: If two players tie for the highest bid on a magician, the magician will be indecisive and attend neither show
Clarification: After a magician uses their items in a performance, those items are lost and their inventory resets to nothing
Clarification: Gifts are anonymous. You will not be told which player gave you the gift. All inventories are still public, though.
Clarification: Item prices are public information.
Clarification: Tokens of Life are granted after Elimination Candidates are decided. This means that the players with the fewest amount of coins are not eligible for Tokens of Life.
Addendum: If there are more than three players with the least amount of coins, the following will happen:
Clarification: You can bid with as many coins as you have at the time of the bid. The bid takes place after the magicians go to market, so it is possible to gain coins before your bid goes through. If you attempt to bid an amount that you don't have at that time, your bid will not be counted.
Clarification: During updates, you will see the inventory of all players after market operations and again after all magicians have shopped. Thus, you will be able to see which goods are generated and are sold publicly.
Addendum: Each magician's Taste 3 has been changed to sell to the player who sold the specified item to the specified magician the day before.
Clarification: Each magician's Taste 2 will ignore players with zero of an item when calculating the median amount.
Clarification: The Strange's taste has the highest precedence, because The Strange goes to the market and leaves the market before any other magicians arrive.
Clarification: You can only gift things that you have before gifting begins, meaning you cannot gift something that you are planning on receiving from another gift
