Monunrail

TBD

Designer(s): ISamEI Match Type: DM (for 2 players)
Featured in: Genius Invitational

MonUnrail is a simple game similar to The Genius's Monorail with one small twist - once the track is constructed, both players must start deconstructing it.

There are two parts to the game:

Building the Track

Players must build a complete circuit that fully utilizes all the pieces placed on the board, connecting them to the starting pieces (both bars of the crossroads be used in the track if a crossroads tile is placed). Players can place 1, 2, or 3 tiles on their turn, and those tiles must all be in a row adjacent to one another. At least one tile you place must be adjacent to an existing tile.

If you believe it is impossible to complete a track with the remaining pieces, you may call Impossible. If your opponent cannot complete the track with unused tiles, you win the game. Otherwise, your opponent wins the game.

Three types of tiles will be available: straight lines, turns, and crossroads. Their exact quantity will be unknown, but there will be at least 16 tiles total.

If you complete the track, then your turn immediately ends and the unrailing phase begins.

Unrailing

After the track is complete, players can remove tiles from the track 1, 2, or 3 at a time. If you remove more than 1 tile, those tiles must all be touching each other in a row or column.

The two starting tiles can also be removed. When unrailing, you can no longer call impossible.

Pie Rule

The game will additionally be played with pie rule. The player with most garnets can choose whether they want to go first or second. After the first player moves, the second player can choose whether or not they would like to take the first player's position and have the first player make the next move.

Time Controls

Each player will have 2 minutes to make a move. If a player fails to make a move within 2 minutes, then they will enter 7 minutes of non-replenishable overflow time. If those 7 minutes fully elapse, they auto-lose the dm.

Winning

Whoever removes the last tile, fully un-railing the board, wins the game, advancing and earning 1 garnet.

Practicing

You can practice with

1) Players 2) Discord people who are outside of and have never been a part of this server 3) People in real life (who have also never been a part of this server :thonk: )

Items

The following items will be able to be used:

First Turn - The player to go first will be able to look at the board for 1 minute, and then decide whether to go first or second.

Undo - This can be used to revert back to a previous board state, but not after impossible has been called.

Time Rush - This can be used to make an opponent's next turn be 1 minute long.

+Time this can be used to increase time by 4 minutes for specific turn.

  • After the railing phase completes, the person who did not just place the final piece begins the unrailing phase
  • You cannot bring notes, but you may take notes during the game
