In this Death Match, win two out of three abstract strategy games about connecting pieces in a row.

Designer(s): ISamEI Match Type: DM (for 2 players)
Featured in: Genius Invitational

In Two Connect, players will attempt to win two out of three connection games - Squava, Yinsh, and Gomoku

On your move, you may play a valid turn once on two of any three boards. (Exception: the player who goes first in the dm only plays on one board).

The rules of the following three games are as follows:

Squava

Squava will take place on a 5 by 5 board. On each turn, players may play on any tile on the board. If you ever have 4-in-a-row, (in a row, column, or diagonal) you win the Squava game. However, if you have three in a row, you immediately lose the Squava game.

Yinsh

If you have less than five rings on the board, your turn on this board will consist of placing one of your five rings on any unoccupied node on the board (on the intersections of the lines, not in the triangles). After five of your rings are placed, you take a turn as follows:

1) Put a stone of your color inside your ring 2) Move that ring in a straight line...

-it may jump over any consecutive line of stones it encounters, in which case all the stones change color to be the other player's. After jumping, the turn ends.
-a ring cannot jump over other rings
-a ring cannot move to a space containing another ring or a stone

The first player to have 5 stones in a row of their color wins the YINSH game.

Rules should be identical to here: http://www.gipf.com/yinsh/rules/rules.html (blitz yinsh)

Gomoku

(above board may be later edited for better visibility)

On your turn on this 14x14 board, you may place a stone of your color anywhere.

The player who achieves 5 in a row, column, or diagonal wins the game.

Winning a Board

Once a board is won, it can no longer be played on.

Both players will then only be able to play on one board at a time.

Turn Bank

Once you play 10 turns on an unwon board, you can no longer play on any boards until you reach 10 turns on both other boards.

If you reach 10 turns on two boards, you will only be able to move on the third board until it reaches 10. If someone wins a board then the turn bank is reset.

Time Controls

Each player will have a 20 minute time bank, kept track of in minute increments.

If you run out of time, you forfeit the game (regardless of number of boards you have won).

Ending the Game

The winner of Two Connect is the first player to win 2 boards out of 3.

If 1 board is drawn, then the winning player is the person who won the most recently won board.
