Chaos Blacktop

In this Main Match, two teams play a game based on basketball to score the most points.

Designer(s): MarcerMercer Match Type: MM (for 8 players)
Featured in: Community Hosted Genius Game 2

In this game, players will be split into 2 teams based on which pre-merge group they were a part of. The Group A members will fight the Group B members in a 4v4 basketball match.

The game will take place over a pre-game round and 8 rounds.

During the pre-game round, each player must choose 1 of 6 locations: Paint, Mid-Left, Mid-Right, Deep-Left, Deep-Mid, and Deep-Right. Each location is connected to 2 other locations (shown in the diagram). A missed submission for starting locations will be considered as starting on Deep-Mid.

For ease of access, if the above image is confusing or not loading, here are the connections in text-form:

The Paint connects to Mid-Left and Mid-Right.

Mid-Left connects to Paint and Deep-Left.

Mid-Right connects to Paint and Deep-Right.

Deep-Left connects to Mid-Left and Deep-Mid.

Deep-Right connects to Mid-Right and Deep-Mid.

Deep-Mid connects to Deep-Left and Deep-Right.

Everyone starts the game with 1 basketball each. 2 extra basketballs are placed into the basketball rack at the start of the game.

In each round, players must choose 1 of 4 actions and then move to another location for the next round. Players can only move to a location that is connected to their current location. Players cannot stay in the same location 2 rounds in a row. A missed submission for locations will be considered as moving to the next clockwise location.

List of possible actions:

Shoot

  • Costs 1 basketball. You may only shoot a maximum of 1 basketball in one round.
  • If nobody on the other team chooses to Swipe or Jump in your location, you make a successful shot and gain 2 or 3 points based on your location.
  • If you make a successful shot from Paint, Mid-Left or Mid-Right, you gain 2 points.
  • If you make a successful shot from Deep-Left, Deep-Mid, or Deep-Right, you gain 3 points.
  • Attempting to shoot while you have no basketballs will be considered an invalid submission.
  • A successful shot will put a basketball into the basketball rack at the end of the round.

Swipe

  • Allows you to steal a basketball from all members of the other team in the same location as you who chose to Shoot. You gain the stolen basketball(s).
  • If you attempt to Swipe and nobody from the other team attempts to Shoot, then you do not gain any basketballs.
  • If multiple people in the same location from the same team successfully Swipe someone or multiple people from the other team that chose to Shoot, then the people who chose to Swipe will split the basketballs stolen from the people who chose to Shoot. Remainders will go into the basketball rack at the end of the round.
  • If you attempt to Swipe and someone or multiple people from the other team in the same location as you chose to Jump, all players from the other team who chose to Jump in that location will gain 1 point. This interaction does not stack if there are multiple people who chose to Swipe.

Jump

  • Allows you to prevent all members of the other team in the same location as you who chose to Shoot from making a successful shot.
  • If no successful Swipes were made, then all basketballs shot will go into the basketball rack at the end of the round.
  • If a Jump was made in the Paint location, all players that chose to Jump regardless of team alignment will take all balls from the basketball rack. If multiple people chose to Jump in the Paint location, all balls from the basketball rack are split between the players that chose to Jump in the Paint location. Remainders will stay in the basketball rack.

Assist - All teammates that share a location with you are immune to swipes and jumps when attempting to shoot. If they choose to Shoot, they will make a successful shot even if a member of the other team chooses to Swipe or Jump.

A missed submission for actions will be considered as selecting Swipe.

Any player may spend 3 garnets to place an extra basketball into the basketball rack in the current round. This will be processed first before any action.

Some information in this main match will be known to everyone and some information will only be known to each player individually.

At the end of each round, the number of balls in the basketball rack and each team's total points will be publicly revealed.

At the end of each round, your own points and number of basketballs, as well as your current location, will be privately revealed to you.

If a team wins by a margin of less than or equal to 2 points, the entire team is awarded a Token of Life. Otherwise, if the margin is greater than or equal to 3 points, the player with the most unique points on the non-losing team will get 2 Tokens of Life, while the player with the most unique points out of everyone else remaining will get 1 Token of Life. If there exists no player with a unique amount of points on the non-losing team, the player with the most unique points out of everyone else will receive 2 Tokens of Life instead of 1. If there exists no player with a unique amount of points at all, no Tokens of Life will be given out.

The Elimination Candidate is the player with the least amount of points that did not win the Main Match. If there is a tie for the least amount of points, the player on the losing team with the least amount of points will become the Elimination Candidate. If all such tied players are on the same team, all winners of the Main Match (not those that are gifted ToLs; only those that won the MM) will vote on who is the Elimination Candidate.

Each player will also receive 1 garnet for every 5 points gained.

Clarification: If the teams tie at the end of the MM, the highest unique scoring player gets 2 tokens, and the second highest unique scoring player gets 1.
