Death Match 4: Dragon’s Rage

Summary:

Hurray! The dragons have all been slayed and it's time for celebration! All of the courageous heroes who slayed the dragons have gone into resting, as they had assured themselves that they had driven back all of the creatures. Now.. turns out that some cunning camouflage dragons were waiting just for this opportune moment to make their strike while there are no heroes to defend the people. Doom is about to reign down on these defenseless towns. Players will take on the roles of both the side of Townspeople and Dragon in a battle to see which player can gobble up more of their opponents townspeople!

Gameplay:

This game will take place in three phases: drafting for buildings and dragon strikes, town setup, and dragon attack. The goal of the game is to build a town with a high population during setup, then tear down the higher percentage of your opponent’s town during a dragon attack on their town. Each town will be represented by a 4x4 board where buildings can be placed.

During the drafting phase, players will take turns selecting either buildings or dragon strikes to add to their collection for use in the later rounds. Buildings selected in this phase will be used during town setup, while dragon strikes will be used during the dragon attack. The DMO will choose who may draft first. The first drafting player will take one item, then in following turns the players will draft two items at a time until one item remains.

During the town setup phase, both players should assemble as many buildings as they can into their town. Buildings can be rotated, but not flipped or mirrored. A building must fit entirely within the town’s 4x4 board. Each building represents 1 townsperson, and thus it is possible to have a maximum of 16 townspeople. If any buildings within a set of buildings would overlap with existing buildings in the town, then that building placement is illegal and cannot be used at all.

Results:

Each player will be graded based on the percentage of their opponent’s town that they were able to destroy. This is represented by dividing the number of townspeople that the dragon gobbled by the total number of townspeople who had lived there.

If you have 0 townspeople in your town after town setup, then you automatically forfeit.

The player who caused a greater percentage of damage to their opponent’s town will be declared the winner.

In the event of a tie, the player who drafted the first dragon shrine will be the winner.

Time Controls:

Before the drafting phase begins, players will have 2 minutes to review the drafting pool before the draft will begin. It is during this time that the DMO will decide who is going to draft first. If the DMO does not submit who will draft first before the end of the 2 minutes, then they will draft first.

During the drafting phase, each player will only have 30 seconds to choose from the drafting pool after their opponent makes a selection. If a player takes longer than 30 seconds, then they will be skipped.

During the town setup phase, each player will have 5 minutes to assemble their entire town. Any buildings that are not placed by the end of 5 minutes are discarded

During the dragon attack phase, each player will have 45 seconds to choose a dragon strike and play it on their opponents town. If 45 seconds passes, then you are skipped and it is your opponent's turn. If you become skipped two times in total, then your dragon attack ends and you can no longer play dragon strikes.

Drafting Pool:

The following image depicts a sample from the drafting pool that will be available to the players to build their towns and collect dragon strikes. A green square denotes a building where townspeople will reside. A yellow square denotes a dragon strike. In the full drafting pool, a red square will denote a dragon shrine. Note that dragon shrines will appear green to your opponent during the dragon attack.

Addendum: There will be a 1 minute viewing period after the town setup phase before the dragon attack phase begins to see your opponent's town before dragon strikes begin being played
