MM3: Reframing

This MM was initially themed around time travel! But explaining it got messy, so I reframed it.

Setup

This game has eight rounds. There are also eight frames labeled 1 to 8.

Players have a deck that consists of one of each card from 1 to 7. These are the only cards in the game.

There will be a 24 hour pregame before the game begins.

Gameplay

In each round, players can attempt to play 0-3 distinct cards (including cards they have already used) onto the current frame (the frame with the current round number). If a player attempts to play an already-used card, it will be moved from the previous frame to the current frame.

At the end of each round, all frames will be considered from highest to lowest. Each card on a frame has a given condition: a card will either score its player points equal to its number (if the condition is true) or lose its player points equal to its number (if the condition is false). If a player has a net loss of points in a round, the points they would gain for that round would be capped at zero.

The conditions are as follows:

  • 1 - There is at least one card on its frame.
  • 2 - There is at least one 1 on its frame.
  • 3 - There are at most three 3’s on its frame.
  • 4 - There is at least one non-4 card with a failed condition on its frame.
  • 5 - There are at least 20 cards on its frame (including itself).
  • 6 - There are more odd cards than even cards on its frame.
  • 7 - There is at least one of each card from 1-6 on its frame.

Cards on a frame will be publicized, along with the players who submitted them.

Variations:

Round 1: Theme (no variation)

Round 2: Arithmophobia

Players receive 8 and 9 to their deck (which remain for future rounds). They have the following conditions:

8 - There are eight or less 8’s on its frame and later frames. 9 - There are at least three 3’s on its frame.

Round 3: Power of Prediction

Players submit a positive integer. If your number is strictly closer to the number of cards moved from either of the previous frames to the current frame than n other players, score n points.

Round 4: Double Digits

Players receive 10 and 11 to their deck (which remain for future rounds). They have the following conditions:

10 - There is at least one card that appears at least four times on its frame that you do not have a copy of on this frame. 11 - This card’s frame has strictly more cards than every other frame.

Round 5: Bad Luck In Abundance

Players receive 12 and 13 to their deck (which remain for future rounds). They have the following conditions:

12 - There are at most as many 12’s as 1’s on this frame. There are at most as many 12's as 2's on this frame. 13 - There are at least 11 differently numbered cards on its frame.

Round 6: Recovery

Players can select any cards they have already played and return them to their hand.

Round 7: Self-Fulfilling Failure

For each of the first five frames, players will privately receive five different player names (that are not their own). For each frame, each player’s name will be received by exactly one other player.

For each frame, if at least one card belonging to your given player fails, earn points equal to the value of the highest such card.

Round 8: Progress Marches Onward

Aside from submitting up to three cards, players can also boost any of their cards on previous frames, moving them one frame higher. Players can only boost one card on each frame.
