Featured in: Community Hosted Genius Game 3

Match Type: MM (for 8 players)

Rules:

In this game, you're going to collaborate with the seven other players to lead the athletes you control to victory.

Setup

Each player pair controls one athlete, meaning you will be controlling 7 athletes in total, each having a shared control with one other player.

Every player will start the game with 8 Q cards, 8 W cards, 8 O cards, 8 P cards and 3 X cards. Each round, players must play exactly one card on each of their athletes. What cards you and your collaborator played on your athlete is going to determine how that athlete is going to move on that round (see the Cards section).

Pregame

There are 4 types of races for your athletes to compete in. By default, all 28 athletes start out in the '100m dash' race. During the 48 hours of this pregame period, if both players agree, they can switch their athlete to compete in another race. To do so, one player must ping me in their pair chat channel and declare which race they want their athlete to compete in. The other player must reply to that message and say 'I agree' or a similar expression of explicit agreement (so for example: I won't be counting leaving a thumbsup emoji as an agreement). Players can switch races how many times they want as long as the agreement is made within the deadline.

Cards

Q, W, O and P are movement cards. A combination of these cards, one played by you and one played by your collaborator, is going to determine how your athlete moves:

QQ - Advances 0.5 meter

QW - Stumbles back 0.5 meter

QO - Advances 0.7 meter

QP - Advances 1 meter

WW - Advances 1.5 meter

WO - Stumbles back 0.2 meter

WP - Stumbles back 0.7 meter

OO - Stays put

OP - Advances 2 meters

PP - Falls over. (The athlete must spend the next round to get up. Cards you play on the fallen athlete will not count.)

X card is a delayed wildcard. When played, that athlete's movement is not going to get processed for that round. And in the next round, the owner who played X card must choose one of the four movement cards to play in place of X. Only then that athlete's movement gets processed. X card cannot be played in the final round. If a player still tries to play X card in the final round, it will count as an incomplete submission.

Races

At the end of the game, the athletes will be ranked by how well they did in their respective races and the owners of the athletes will gain points based on that ranking.

100m dash is your standard race where the athlete who ran the furthest wins. The ranking will be based on the distances each athlete ran.

Marathon The athlete who ran the most consistently each round wins.

Middle Race The athlete in the middle wins. First, we will do an initial ranking of distance, just like the 100m dash. Then we will take the median and the athletes will be ranked by who ran closest to that median number. Athletes who ran 0m won't be counted and automatically placed last.

Three-Legged Race To enter this race, the athlete must choose another athlete to be their partner and they must agree. To advance in this race, one of the cards from two athletes must be the same and the athletes will move based on the other two cards. If there is no identical card from the two athletes, the athletes will stay put. For example, if Athlete A has Q and W card played and Athlete B has W and P card played, the athletes will be able to move because both athletes have the same W card. And when they move, it will be based on the other two cards: Q and P, so they will advance 1 meter.

However if Athlete A has double Q and Athlete B has W and P, they won't be able to move because they don't have the same card.

In a rare scenario where both athletes have the exact same two cards played, for example Athlete A has Q and P and Athlete B also has Q and P, they will be able to move because they have a common card. But because they have two such identical cards and we can't determine the 'other' 2 cards, the movement will be based on that pair, in this case Q and P, so the athletes will advance 1 meter.

The ranking will be based on distances run.

Submission

The game will last 5 rounds. Each round, players will submit a list of which cards they want to play on their athletes. Note that you can only play 1 card on a given athlete. Missed submission on an athlete is going to get their move card randomized from the remaining cards.

Round results will show which cards were played on which athletes and the running distances in the four races.

Garnets

Players can spend 1 garnet to buy a QQ pack consisting of 1 Q card and 1 Q card.

Players can spend 1 garnet to buy a WP pack consisting of 1 W card and 1 P card.

Players can spend 1 garnet to buy an OP pack consisting of 1 O card and 1 P card.

Players can spend 2 garnets to buy an X pack, consisting of 1 X card.

Each pack can only be bought twice per player.

To purchase a pack, simply submit in your submission channel:

I want to purchase a QQ pack

End of game

At the end of the fifth round, rankings of the all four races are shown. The athletes will earn points through this formula:

-ln(X÷N)

where N is the number of competitors in that race and X is the ranking the athlete has.

Which players controlled which athletes will also be revealed so we can calculate the players' scores. The players will be ranked by the sum of the points earned by their athletes and that will be the final ranking where we determine the winners and losers of this Main Match.

If a tie occurs, the player who won the most races will place higher. If that is a tie, the player who got the 2nd most places will place higher and so on.

In the final ranking, the player who ranked the highest wins. That gains gains 2 Tokens of Life and 3 garnets.

The player who ranked the 2nd highest gains 1 Token of Life and 2 garnets.

The player who ranked the 3rd highest gains 2 garnets.

The player who ranked the lowest becomes the Elimination Candidate.

Winners of each race will also earn 1 communal garnet.

Amendment: In addition to the points gained through the formula, first three placers of each race receive additional bonus points. These bonus points are as follows:

1st place earns 1.386 2nd place earns 0.693 3rd place earns 0.287.

If there is a tie for any of the top 3 positions, all tied athletes receive the higher bonus but the lower bonus goes to no one. For example, if two athletes tie for first place, both of them receive 1.386 points, but no athlete receives the bonus points for being the second-place finisher. However the third place receive their bonus normally.
