LITTLE HUNTERS

Rack up points from playing high cards, but don't make it easy for the opponent to guess.

This game has never appeared in a previous The Genius ORG before. This game was invented by Brett J. Gilbert and Matthew Dunstan, and was published under the name Good Little Hunters by Good Little Games, where it had a theme of animals in a hunting season. The theme has been completely removed, and the game-end condition has been slightly adjusted.

GAME RULES

⚙️ Setup and terminology

Each player has 5 cards, numbered 1-5. At the beginning of the bout, each player has all five cards in their hand. During the bout, cards will be played out of their hand.

A bout lasts 3 rounds, although possibly less if an instant win condition is achieved.

🧠 In a round

In each round, players submit moves at the same time. To make a move for the round, simply choose any card still in your hand.

After both players have chosen a card, the round is resolved. There are two cases:

  • Both cards are the same. Then both cards are revealed and the bout proceeds to the next round.
  • The cards are different. Then the player with the lower card reveals it first, and guesses the opponent's card. If correct, the player wins the bout instantly. If incorrect, the opponent's card is revealed and the bout proceeds to the next round.

Cards that are revealed are no longer considered to be in your hand.

💎 Winning

You can win a bout instantly by guessing the opponent's card correctly when you get the chance.

Otherwise, the bout ends after 3 rounds. The player with a higher sum of revealed cards wins. In case of a tie, compare the cards from the highest to lowest; if either player has a higher card during this comparison, they win. Otherwise, the bout is a tie.

A single bout is extremely short. By default, you will play a best of 15 bouts (first to 8 wins is the winner, barring ties). In case of a tied match, you will play an additional best of 5 bouts.

ADMINISTRATION

🏷️ Writing your move

Your move for a round must be the card you wish to submit, which must be among the ones still in your hand. If your move is invalid (the card is not in your hand), you lose the bout.

If you get the chance to guess, your guess can be among any of the five cards.

👁️ Available information

There is no hidden information other than the current moves. All information is public. You should submit your card for the round in your private submissions channel, but make your guess in public.

After each move, it will be announced who has the lower card, and their card is revealed. (Or in case of a tie, both cards are revealed.) After each guess, the opponent's card is revealed.

Timing

You have 1 minute to submit your card. If you run out of time, you lose the bout.

You have 30 seconds to guess your opponent's card. If you run out of time, you skip guessing; your opponent's card is automatically safe.

CLARIFICATIONS

📌 Examples

The following is an example bout between Black and White.

For the first round, Black submits 1 and White submits 4. It is announced that Black has the lower card, so Black gets to guess White's card. Black guesses 3; this is wrong. Both cards are revealed.

For the second round, Black submits 3 and White submits 3. They are tied, so both cards are revealed.

For the third round, Black submits 5 and White submits 2. It is announced that White has the lower card, so White gets to guess Black's card. White guesses 5. This is correct, so White wins the bout.

Had White's guess been wrong, Black would be safe. As there have been three rounds, the totals are compared. Both players revealed a total of 9, so we compare the highest cards revealed. Black's 5 is higher than White's 4, so Black would win the bout. But because White guessed correctly, all this is irrelevant; White wins the bout for guessing correctly.
