Cubic Functions

In this Death Match, solve mathematical puzzles based off of a grid of cubes with multiple possible configurations.

As a reminder, here's the cubic formula!

Overview

In this DM, players will be solving spatial and mental puzzles.

Setup

There will be 15 rounds to this game. Each round, you will be given some number of side views of some number of grids of cubes, along with a question involving letters.

Cubes

Each grid of cubes is labelled by a capital letter. This grid of cubes is one block high, but may have variable side lengths.

Each cube has one solid color, and are all completely opaque. That means that if a cube is in front of another, the ones behind cannot be seen.

These side views will contain information on what is visible from that side. Each cell of the view will contain one of three types of information:

Solid white, which means that there is no cube visible.

A solid (non-white) color, which means that there is a cube of that color visible.

A colored question mark, which means that there is either a cube of that color visible, or there is no cube visible.

These side views will be located on the edge of the grid, corresponding to the view from that direction into the grid.

That means for each grid of cubes, there will be a finite, but not necessarily one, amount of possible individual cubes in them. Every grid will have at least one possible arrangement of cubes.

Questions

The grids are labeled by letter and will be put into a question. The solution for each round is the number of possible distinct (correct) answers to the question.

The question may be something like "What is A + B?" or something like "How many factors does A have, including itself?" The questions may get a bit more complicated than this; you've been warned!

For example, if the grid labelled A can have either 6 or 7 cubes, and the grid labelled B can have either 3 or 4 cubes, then "What is A + B?" will have 3 distinct answers (3+6=9, 4+6=10, 3+7=10, 4+7=11), and hence the answer for the round would be 3.

Winning

The first player to get the solution for each round wins a point. The first player to get 8 points wins the DM. If all 15 rounds have been played and no player has 8 points, then the player with more points wins. If this is a tie, a tiebreaker round will be played, with no time limit. The winner of this tiebreaker round will be the winner of the DM.

Timing

If you answer a round incorrectly, you cannot answer for 30 seconds. If 10 minutes pass without a correct answer being given, the round will be skipped. This 10 minute rule does not apply to the tiebreaker round.

Restrictions

You may take notes during the DM; however, the use of external tools such as calculators, programs, or spreadsheet formulas is prohibited. For this match, image editors are also explicitly banned. You are still allowed to take notes on paper and other digital media, but you are not allowed to copy the image provided directly.

Items

All item uses are public.

Freeze: You may use this item whenever your opponent answers incorrectly; they will have to wait an extra 30 seconds before they can answer again. This item's ability cannot stack. This item has 1 use.

Glitch: You may use this item to glitch the image your opponent receives for the round; this must be used before the round begins. You will privately receive the non-glitched version of the round. This item has 1 use.

Scan: The number of different values for a letter is privately revealed to you. You may only use this item on rounds with more than one distinct letter. This item has 2 uses.
