In Gridlock, both players will be manoeuvring a Guard around a 5x5 grid of tiles, attempting to find the 11 safe players to score points. However, each player may only move the Guard in one axis of movement.

The Grid

Before The Match

Before the Match begins, each safe player will select one of the twenty-four empty tiles on the grid - C3 is not permitted as a placement. This is the tile that the safe player will hide on, while the Death Match players will attempt to find the safe players. Each player must do this before the Match begins or else they will receive a strike.

Beginning The Match

The Death Match Opponent will select if they play first or second, or if they will move the Guard horizontally or vertically. The Elimination Candidate will make the remaining selection. So, if the Death Match Opponent opts to play first, then the Elimination Candidate will play second, but have the choice between horizontal and vertical.

Movement Rules

Each player may move the Guard one space along their allotted axis, so the Horizontal player, if playing first, may move either left or right, while the vertical player may only move up or down. The grid loops around, so the Horizontal player may move the Guard, if situated on the rightmost column, to the leftmost column (and vice versa).

When the Guard is moved, something different will occur depending on the tile of the square that the Guard is moved to:

If the tile is white, then the tile will be coloured yellow, and the player that moved the Guard there will score 1 point for each safe player that secreted themselves at that square.

If the tile is yellow, the tile will be coloured red. Red tiles are impassable, and the Guard cannot visit them, for any reason.

Victory

A player will win the game in one of two ways.

If a player reaches 6, or more, points, they will be declared the winner.

Alternatively, if it is a player's turn and they are unable to make a move, due to being bounded by a red tile on both sides, that player will lose, and their opponent will be declared the winner.

Communication

The safe players may freely discuss this Death Match amongst themselves, and with the Death Match Participants. However, once the live portion of the Death Match commences, the Death Match participants are not permitted to talk to the safe players.

Stakes

The winner of this Match will stay in Bang-A-Rang The Genius I, and will also receive all Garnets held by their opponent. The loser will taste the bitter cup of defeat, and be the first contestant eliminated. So, give it your all!
